Hello, this is my first time here so apologies if I’m not responding to the correct query.
Re the Shirley family question relating to Kirkby in Ashfield; there was mention of Henry Shirley (b1851 Nottingham) who married Elizabeth Renshaw (b1853 Mansfield) in 1871.
She had 6 children with Henry. I am unable to determine when Henry died…
In the 1911 census, Elizabeth was a widow living with her daughter Florence (b1891) Nuncargate, Kirkby-in-Ashfield. Her occupation was Housekeeper and the Head was James Gilbert.
In 1911 Florence married Willie Willars and her maiden name is Florence Gilbert Shirley. I believe Henry Shirley died when Florence was approx 5/6 years (I need to verify death detail) and Florence was raised by James Gilbert and her mother.
Henry Shirley is my 2nd GGrandfather.
