this is where Val is looking     http://www.ucs.louisiana.edu/bnl/Warning.html

...but it is 100 years before your Andrew....keeping looking and do not give up ...something will turn up......

Strange you say that your Taggarts came from Cumberland to Belfast then back again...I also have that happening as well...I wonder why

Steve

Thanks Steve for that link. It does help to understand where this information is coming from.

Hi everyone
I am no further along in finding my Andrew. I love the idea of the ship owner, conjures up pictures of interesting places, dangers etc. How great it would be to have a colourful character in our tree.
In 1871 my Andrew's wife and 3 sons are staying with her sister. There is no sign of him in Cumberland. Is it him in Cheshire (It was not Liverpool - I was wrong)? There is no way I can confirm that. He could of course been back in Ireland or at sea. Can't have bee too far away because his youngest sons were 11 mths and were registered by Andrew. I still would like to connect him to Andrew (the elder), his wife Jane and their daughter Elizabeth who were in Cumberland too and were also born in Belfast.
I need to find more about Andrew & Jane who married in Ireland (Elizabeth was born there).
Can someone tell me what birth and marriage records are available in Ireland, are they at PRONI, can they be obtained via the internet. I don't think I am ever going to solve this one, particularly from the other side of the world.

Wow
You guys (and Gals) are amazing - I am going to sit in here and wait for the Taggarts to pop up. I still don't know how or when I will recognise my Andrew, but it will be fun watching.
In the meantime, I am going to try and find out more about the Andrew who died in Cumberland in 1883.
Cheers
Patricia

Did I read the dates incorrectly on your journal? I thought your James Muir and Mary Whyte were much earlier than mine  ???

I have parents of James Muir (Baptism 27 January 1750/51 Inchinnan,Renfrew,Scotland) as Alexander Muir and Janet Paterson - married  25 Jul 1742 Inchinnan.
Siblings Matthew 1745, Janet 1748, Mary 1752, Martha 1754.
(No further back - I think there were too many Alexanders  ??? )

Parents of Mary Whyte (1756) - Thomas Whyte and Elizabeth Blackwood - married 28 August 1740, Erskine.  siblings of Mary - James 1741, William 1744, James 1745, Elizabeth 1748, Janet 1750, John 1753

Parents of Elizabeth Blackwood (1719) were John Blackwood and Janet Petterson married 26 Dec 1718 Erskine. Have found no siblings.

Hi Trish
I have just started looking at the journal again, and I am not sure, but there may have been two Thomas Whytes in the same period.
This need looking into.

the James muir i have died at sea and was registered in New Zealand  his wifes death i do have ann harrison died 26th march 1850.

For some reason the james muir i have here was born 20th oct 1822, Now the closest i can get to family such as parents is matthew muir and margaret stevenson but i am not a 100% sure on this.

James Muir 20th Oct 1822 was the son of Matthew Muir and Margaret Stevenson. I don't have any record of who he married or what happened to him.

I have a connection to a large family of Muirs from Renfrew - one of them Elizabeth (born 1799) married name Miller  arrived in Sydney 1834 on the "Othello". I have a list of all her siblings, which include the names James and Matthew (but no Peter). I cannot instantly see a connection, but while looking I found a submitted IGI record for your James parents Matthew Muir and Margaret Stevenson. Could be worth checking the LDS film to find a family connection.

My family of Muirs, in case you can see a connection are
James Muir 1751  married Mary Whyte (White) 1756. Married in 1779 Erskine
Children
Alexander 1780
Thomas  1782
Elizabeth 1784
Janet 1786
James  1788
William  1790
Matthew 1792
John  1794
George 1796
Elizabeth 1799

Trish

They were all born in Erskine or Renfrew, but Elizabeth was married & her Scottish children were born in Paisley, & some of the brothers moved there as well, being mentioned in the diary of the trip to Oz.

These are the family of William from my previous message.  Trish, I would be interested in how far back you have gone with this family.
Thanks
Patricia
