Durham Lookup Requests / which William Wind marries Dorothy Craswell?
« on: Friday 29 November 24 17:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Folks, it has been some time since I was active, life got complicated.
I am on the trail of another William Wind. He marries Dorothy Craswell 30 Aug 1803 in Lamesley, St Andrews. But I cannot find Dorothys birth, and of course, am confused which William is involved.
I had to let my Findmypast sub go, is there any kind researcher who can point me at usefil records to lock in a past. I do not find any children on Freereg with William/Dorothy yet. This William is not on my direct lineage but I am trying to locate all the Williams. Thank you for any input.

Hi Gary, welcome. Lots of super good advice already posted. I would add Wikitree.com as both a resource and to build a tree. Trees are somewhat more validated and require sources where many other systems don't. It is a bit US centric but there is a huge active UK scene.

Hi, out of my area, but I checked Findmypast, there are only 5 baptisms in a 1703 +- 5 year range, only 2 are possibly of interest. Both of Northumberland. You have not given info about Anthony, eg marriage etc to narrow choice. Looks like a hard one. There were a couple of wills, but it seems to relate to an Anthony born 1733.
Good luck.

Hi Dan. Great that folk could transcribe the will. The link to WikiTree also has a source using the same will and has more detail of the image.

The WikiTree profile does not include the daughters mentioned in the will however.
There is a lot of discussion on WT about the family and background that may be of use. I generally find that WikiTree is slightly more reliable and folk involved with theses type of profiles and projects  get picky about source and correctness.
It does seem to fit with the Virginia story though.
Good luck.

Great folks translated for you
I guess you have these records
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Palmer-229

Be cautious of trees, but the additional sources may be useful for your research.

Hi. I am going out on a limb here as while I cannot understand some words, most is clearish. You don't give background or dates. The will is 1529 and he mentions several daughters and a "Captain". I am sure he is bequeathing tobacco to his daughters and others. Now, googling his name a similar will comes up, translated.
I believe he is a ship owner or trader and leaving his worldly goods etc.
Daughters Elizabeth, Dorothy etc.
Good luck, I hope someone has better script skills than me.

Hi garsonite, yes that is George of 1797, but the geneanet tree is incorrect. Genorge of 1797 sits on the William 1735 tree.
It has the tree conflated, mixing the two William Winds (Lumley and Lamesley) Each were born 1731 and about 1735. This is the Lumley and Cow Close mix-up.
BTW, in my last post I said that the two georges had kids of similar names, I was wrong, They all sit under one George, it was extremely confusing and I found a transcription error for one child. She was names Mary Ann on on and Mary Jane on the other (same date and similar location).
