Definitely looks like Clark. You should 'Report any error in transcription'

Hi Kim

Son William born 1859, looks to have married Elizabeth McKinnon in 1882 in Old Kilpatrick, Dunbarton (ref 501 / 53).

I think this is them in 1891:

William Clark 32 Rivetter b. Glasgow
Elizabeth Clark 32 b. Glasgow
Ellen Clark 7 b. Old Kilpatrick, Yoker
Robert Clark 7 b. Old Kilpatrick
Alexander Clark 3 b. Glasgow
William Clark 5 months b. Glasgow

Address 9 Lyon Street , Glasgow/Milton

By 1911, the family look to be in Ireland. Address showing as 118 East Bread Street (Pottinger (part of), Down. See www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai002198812/

From the family's entry in 1911 and going by the birth places and ages for the younger children, the Clarks look to have been in Ireland pre 1901.

This looks to be the youngest's birth, Isabella, in 1902 on the Irish registers. If you haven't viewed images on there before, just add your name, tick the box for agree and the captcha box https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1902/01925/1745797.pdf

Also, daughter Ruth's entry in 1896 https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1896/02153/1816775.pdf

Monica ! This is amazing the marriage spot on! how you found that is beyond me, and looking in Ireland it hadn’t crossed my mind even though his father was born in Ireland
Truly amazing thank you 🙏

Have you checked that the boys weren't living with McCormick relatives in 1891

I notice the family had Michael McCormick a labourer age 66 living with them in 1871

Was he  Mary's father ? (2nd son named after him ) .

He was Mary’s father he moves around to different daughters lol he’s with the Potts in 1881 will check 1891 again many thanks

Thanks cd it’s so frustrating and costly!!
Just be glad it's only £1.50 lost.

Imagine how much more costly it would be if you had to pay for certificates from England, or Australia, to name but two :)

I know! ! That’s for sure !

It might be worth looking for all in any military records.  I think during the time you cannot locate these men we were fighting the Boar War.

Some of these soldiers did stay behind in South Africa to live. (I have one in my family that did just that).

This is has been my thinking….i do have a military record for an Alexander but can’t prove it’s him as the records are quite vague with facts, it feels right, he leaves the military 1905 after 12 years served in East Indies and then nothing  :'(

Thanks cd it’s so frustrating and costly!!

The 1891 has an entry for Robert & he's living with brothers Alexander & John & sister Margaret?

Your post says you can't find them after 1881?

Just paid to see this record it’s wrong family  :-\
