Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Will from 1668 - Need help reading

The Old Style (Julian) calendar, year ended on 24 March instead of the 31st December

And the first day of the new year started on the 25 March instead of the 1st January.

Oh, now that's interesting! Seems a strange time to start a new year

This is just the probate clause, in Latin, written on the back of the will, showing that the will was proved on 26 May 1668 at Cirencester.

The will itself is on the previous page (image 31 of 441). Say if you need help with that.

Thanks. I'm attaching what I hope is the will  ;D

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping there is someone here who could read this will for me from 1668 as I am stumped! It is the will of Barbara Spencer.

I'm not sure where the original poster is, but I'm hoping they're still on here to see what they have found

Cornwall / John Stephens - St Gluvias, Penryn

Hi guys, me again!

Doing my husbands family tree I have hit a wall. His 3x great grandfather Richard Stephens, it appears his father is John. Now I'm getting hits for John being born in 1754 which is ok, but he wasn't married until 1797 aged 42. Now I know it isn't unheard of but "normally" they marry a lot younger. The thing is, I can't find anything on him to suggest a previous marriage. The marriage record isn't much help, there's no age, fathers name or status on it. HELP!!
