Thank you for replying.
Can you see my tree ?
I’m on varying sites and none of them are accurate. I use the computer ones as “ note paper” .
The real stuff is on paper in my study.
Lots of the research from twenty five years ago and onwards is mine but mixed with my aging Dad and his older sister ,my Aunt.
Dad died aged 96 and Auntie aged 104.They were both completely devoted to genealogy.
I’m on Ancestry and Heritage and Find my Past.
It’s the odd gap that needs filling.
One of the biggest if not the biggest brick wall was where did my great grandmothers middle name of Sissons come from ? I found it ! Sadly both Dad and Auntie had died by then. Stupidly,I still think I should phone and tell them. We had so many phone calls. At the time zi was still teaching so genealogy research became complicated in the midst of lesson planning !
I’ll get back to you.
Regards Maggie

Hi,
My search for Neate Perry is rather compicated.
Perry was the maiden name of my great grandmother. As a child she lived in Devizes as one set of grandparents William and Mary Ann Perry ran The Pelican coaching house which is still in the market square.
Her mother was a Maslin and lived with her Aunt Sarah Sissons then Chambers then Grace. When she was two Mary Sarah Sissons Perry my great grandmother was in The Castle Hotel which is still in the centre of Devizes.
Her father John Perry had left his wife Louisa Elizabeth Maslin Perry and his business and gone to live in Soho London.
Here he finds a mistress and produces two more daughters. Unbelievably, he seems to bring the mistress and the daughters to live in the house with his legal wife and daughter.
He had received money from a couple of wills and was also awaiting the clearance of a will that had been in chancery for around ten years. At this point he becomes a very wealthy man. Tragically he died in his fifties about six months later. Everything is left to his one and only legal daughter Mary.
Mary inherits the money, land and properties and makes a will as by now she is married to a farmer from Potterne John Biggs Panks.
In this will we have the first indication that there is a brother.
He is recorded as Neate Perry Neate ! I have never been able to find him for definately though there are indications that he may have been in Somerset and running a successful grocery business.
The question then has to be how does he fit in ?
We surmised that JohnPerry on one of his jaunts ,had a relationship with someone named Neate and when the child was born he was given both Neate and Perry as his surnames.
Maybe you have broken through this barrier ?
They are an unbelievably complicated family to follow even when you have the documents in front of you !
Solicitors swearing three times to differen aspects of Mary’s life when the must have known it was false.
The whole extended family disappear in the 1871 census eventually found with a changed surname and my great grandmother having a completely different name but on the certificates I sent for up comes her real name crossed through…an illegitimate daughter !
Later more legal documents turn up.
This was all taking place between 1820 and 1895 through varying generations !
It ended at this point with no job,no home,no money and selling the silver candlesticks whilst Mary’s husband now works as a storekeeper and they live in a two up two down box of a house with six   sons !
So I’m afraid apart from knowing a Perry Neate turns up in Somerset and thinking he may be the half brother to Mary and Jon Perry his father,I’m not much use to you.
Looking forward to seeing how you may have a Perry Neate too. Thanks but sorry this is sooo long !

Lamahorse,
I believe I’m related to the McCarthy family of Mohonagh by marriage ( I’ll need to check my notes).
My mother was in Killaderry,a Bohane, she was the youngest but one in a family of ten children. Her endest brothers were adults.
My Mum remembers the Black and Tans raiding their farm on more than one occasion. She said it was terrifying. They’d just turn up at the farm house and search through everything. 😢

Kiltsglassan,
This Patrick Hegarty is my Grandmother’s brother so my great uncle.
There’s a huge gap in ages.
My mother was the one from youngest in the Bohane family from Killaderry she was born 1918
Her mother ( my grandmother ) was Ellen Hegarty born 1877 who married Peter Bohane of Killaderry.
Her Mother was Mary Driscoll from Drishane
And Mary’s parents were William Driscoll and Anne Attridge.

Hi Lama horse,
I’ve just returned from my annual pilgrimage to Skibb.
Yes,I’ve read about the Bohane who was found on the road close to Tragumna. It was a th junction of the boreen going to the Killaderry Townland where a variety of Bohane families lived then and live now.
My mother was born there and I can trace us back to 1800 on that site.
There must be a link between all the Bohane families in Killaderry but so far I haven’t worked it out !
My grandfather was Peter Bohane his father Michael and his father before that another Peter.
The next door farm was John Bohane who died about fifteen years back. I met people who told me we were first cousins but I didn’t have time to talk in depth as a lift was waiting for me..
I am currently trying to sort out the link of the Bohanes of Killaderry to the estate of land owned by the Townsends of Castletownsend. The land was taken from a man named Phelan in the Cromwellian settlements. I understand that it is possible that Bohanes lived there back then ! The connection was found in the Landsdown library in London and the original script is in Bowood House which is about two miles from where I now live. That in turn is about a mile from where all my English family are from. It’s linked to research over Catholics andvProtestants back in the 1600s . I believe it’s named Penders List.

Hi,
I’m in Skibbereen at the moment.
I’ve an appointment to check some research linking my Hegarty family to William O’Driscoll and Anne Attridge.
I think I need to up date my paper version of my family tree. I find it much easier to work on paper !
I use the main genealogy sites for research which I then begin to check with Ireland ie.
It gets complicated when the Christian names repeat but in some ways that’s a help. eg if Cornelius turns up I know it’s not likely to be one of mine !
I’m pretty certain that we are linked . My great grandmother was McCarthy and the other O’Driscoll so that’s a good start !
I’ve found  lots of links in  the town newspaper. Death reports often give those that attended the burial starting with the immediate relatives and working down to friends.
I bring my paperwork genealogy over with me from England. We come on the ferry so I have about four bag fulls.
Today I’ve spent checking through some old research. I’ve not looked at my Irish bits since last summer. That’s due to the fact that I have inherited my late Dad and late Aunt’s English research some of which goes back to 1946 ! There’s a room full of it ! Before we came over I had the local history office conservation guy look at it as I don’t want it to disintegrate !
If I find any thing new while here I’ll try and get back to you.😃

Hi,sorry I’m so late replying.
I work on my Irish genealogy in the summer when I’m home.
Yes ,you must be related to me. My grandfather was Peter Bohane born 1864 and died 1944
His father my great grandfather was Michael Bohane and before that another Peter Bohane.
My grandfathers older sister was Mary Anne who married and moved to Moghana ( sorry about spelling ) There are living dcendents from this branch still in Skibbereen.
Also decedents from Peter living in Skibbereen, the USA and the UK.
Next was a sister named Catherine but I’ve been able to find nothing on her though I’ve been looking for twenty years ! I’ve an appointment at The Skibbereen Heritage Centre next week and searching for Catherine is on my list.
After that was John or Johnnie who went to the USA. He was the point of contact for those who emigrated.
Next was Michael who married Agnes Leonard. They lived in Bridge Street in Skibb and ran a pub. Some of their decedents live in the UK.
It is amazing to know that having spread so far many of us are still in contact due to the internet.
When I was a child my Mum used to bemoan the fact that airmail letter paper was so expensive and she was losing contact with her American brothers and sisters.
My grandfather Peter Bohane born 1864 married Ellen Hegarty from Laharadane ( the next door townland) Ellen’s sibling emigrated and I had no idea where they were. I had some support on Roots Chat from a wonderful person who suggested I look in Montana. And there they were ! Correct parents names and correct townland. Discovered my Mum had first cousins that she knew nothing about 😢If anyone can add to this please message or if you think I could help please ask .

At the moment I think it’s a resounding YES !
I know everything about Louisa from the age of thirteen. I now have evidence to link the other Maslin’s together.
When you mention christenings ,I’ve a feeling that that Amelia and Sarah were baptised but later.
I do know that Louisa’s step children ( from a relation ship her husband John had, don’t ask !!!) were christened at least twice as children and then as adults so there is a bit of a pattern in that bit of the family.
Many thanks again. I’ll now need to get it all down on paper ! Or computer !✨🌟✨
