Northamptonshire / Re: Gates Family Rushden, Peterborough or thereabouts

I only mentioned Peterborough because I had already looked at it, searching for the other part of this chain, the Cunworth/Conworths. There were certainly Gates in Peterborough, but the only connection I can find to Sarah is that her proctor when she lodged her renunciation re her husband's estate was one William Gates of Peterborough. It is likely that he was a family member, but I have nothing to support that.
Sorry if I mislead anyone.
Cheers,
Alwynne

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: City of London Burial?
« on: Tuesday 27 June 06 08:06 BST (UK)  »
That is definitely him, so thank you very much! The puzzling thing is that I swear I had already looked for a PCC will, but perhaps it has been added recently.
I have downloaded the will, and though he asked to be buried in Richmond with his first two wives, he isn't in the parish register. The will gives relatives in other parishes, so I shall try there.
Thank you for your help.
Cheers,
Alwynne

No, I haven't, and thank you very much for that, as it's not a place I had heard of. I may get lucky this time!

Somerset / Walcot St Swithins Burial
« on: Monday 26 June 06 07:40 BST (UK)  »
Is there some kind person who has access to the Walcot St Swithins register, who wouldn't mind doing a look up for me, please?
I am looking for the burial of Isabella Fletcher, wife of Anthony Fletcher, definitely after 1774, and probably before 1792. If this is a very large register, and too much of an imposition, then please accept my apologies.
They lived at The Circus, Bath, and Walcot St Swithins was the closest church, and was where they were married.
With thanks,
Alwynne :-\

Northamptonshire / GATES Family Rushden, Peterborough or thereabouts
« on: Monday 26 June 06 07:24 BST (UK)  »
???I have nearly driven myself bonkers looking for the baptism of Sarah Gates, who married Thomas Fletcher at Rushden in 1741.
She died in December 1801, at the age of 96, so was born about 1705.
I can't find her baptism in Rushden nor in St John the Baptist, Peterborough, or in several parishes around Rushden.
If anyone knows of a cluster of Gates in this general area, I would be most grateful to know. Even better - if, by any chance, anyone comes across her, I shall jum ???p for joy.
With thanks,
Alwynne

There is also the following book:

The History and Antiquities of Higham Ferrers, with historical Rushden and Irthlingborough, etc. By John Cole, of Scarborough. Printed for the author at Wellingborough, 1838.

I haven't seen this book myself, but have read the extract on Rushden, as it concerns my family, who lived at Rushden Hall. It may be hard to get, but there is a copy in the British Library.
Cheers,
Alwynne :D
