Peter norris was your johns great grandfather .
This is my line and I'm pretty confident it's correct.
Peter Norris 1740-
6th great-grandfather
John Norris 1773-1858
5th great grandfather
mary norris 1800-
4th great grandmother
catherine reid 1836-1868

Hello , I stumbled upon this thread while looking for someone else. These are my family , I actually live in caithness and can go back to Peter Norris Birth ABT. 1740 • , Caithness, Scotland my 6th great grandfather. Wasn't very easy as they were tinsmiths as you said and travelled all over, so I think I've got it right.
Mary Norris my 4th great grandmother , her daughter Catherine was left pregnant by an orcadian who was born in the Hudson bay and slunk back there  , his father too took on a metis wife and left a family in Orkney.
