Thanks for replying Nicole.  I have, since my message in 2008, received all answers to my query about the whereabouts of all the family members, from Irene's mum Mona and dad John Brown McDonald, who went to live in Australia.
I had also been in conversation with your mum Barbara some time ago.
Thanks again.

Hello kirkmichael,
This is the family I have been researching.  John MCDonald was a police constable in Coatbridge.  I believe he was attached to the Coatbridge St. Woodside St. police station.
My research so far found NO living biological children from this marriage.

Does the Coatbridge 1911 Census show a child named John Brown McDonald MILLER (bd Oct. 1905) living with them at Coatbridge?
John Brown McDonald Miller was in fact the illigitimate child of Mary Pollock MILLER's sister Elizabeth Allan Miller, who showed an address at 23 Ashton Lane Glasgow.
This couple later moved to Distillery Cottages, GARNKIRK, (Cadder District).  Is there any way to tell when they moved from Coatbridge?

Question:

Do genealogists have access to the 1921 Census records in the GROS offices?

This picture shows Main Street, Chryston in the 1950's.   The small house across the street from the church was at that time a Post Office and local General store.  The owners lived in the other side.
Many of the small older houses, on the Church side, and the length of Main street had, and still do have large properties.

Billyblue, thanks for your help.

I have since been informed that the Docherty and Donnelly families were related, so it's possible that John Docherty and wife in 1906 lived with the Donnelys temporarily.
I have a later address of 147 Lawmoor Street for Docherty.  I'm told that at one time Lawmoor Street was called 'South Wellington Street'.   A search of the Evaluation Rolls for 1913-14 shows a John Docherty listed as a tenant.   No occupation given.   My John Docherty was an 'Iron Turner' who may have been employed at 'Dixon's blazes' nearby.
There doesn't appear to be a search in the 1911 census for occupants at a specific address.   Unfortunately I don't have a birthdate.

Hi Sancti,

Elizabeth's son John was born in 1905 at 63 Ashton Lane, Glasgow,  so this would make his mother's age then about 31 yrs.
There's so many Elizabeth Millers on the 1911 census, but no Elizabeth Allan Miller's that I can find.   Perhaps she married and changed her name.

Thanks for your help Sancti

Hi Sancti,
Unfortunately there's no information of a marriage for Elizabeth, however there was 'talk' in the family that she did marry but that was all.
If there was a marriage it would have been after the birth of her son
5th Oct. 1905.  No father's name was written on the legal birth registration  only the word 'illigitimate'. Elizabeth gave her occupation as a domestic servant.  The address shown on the birth registration is 63 Ashton Lane, Glasgow.

Lanarkshire / 1911 Census help please
« on: Monday 20 June 11 22:33 BST (UK)  »
I'm having trouble finding Elizabeth Allan Miller on the 1911 census.
Her d.o.b is 29 December  1874 in Old Monkland
Father: Robert Wallace Miller and Mother: Mary Allan.
Elizabeth gave birth to a son John, October 1905 in Glasgow.
Thankyou to anyone who can help.
