Technical Help / Re: RDBMS files to Windows 11
« on: Wednesday 27 March 24 11:09 GMT (UK)  »
If by RDBMS you mean a relational database management system, then the answer is 'it depends'. Systems like this typically store info in separate files. For example, if it concerns people, there could be a top level file with a name and  an index number. Then a lower file which could contain addresses and  the index number field again for each record.  The two files are related by the index number. If you can identify files, then I would try importing them individually in to Excel, this may require some trial and error. If the original set up was a relatively simple one, it should be possible to extract all the info from it. The more complicated the original setup, the harder and more time-consuming it will be to  deal with.  The version of Windows you are using is mostly irrelevant.

It is my view that they were engaged, this, then was a formal commitment to marriage, accompanied by an expensive diamond :)
When did suing for breach of promise stop.

Mike

Suing for breach of promise stops when neither party has any money - trying to get blood out of a stone is a waste of effort.

Unless you have more family information like letters or a diary, there is no way to settle this for definite. They might have been formally engaged to be married, or they might simply have been going out as boyfriend and girlfriend with view to marrying later, but not formally engaged. In a way, it's a distinction without a difference, unless there was money involved and a breach-of-promise suit a possibility.

To try Google Docs set yourself up with a gmail account - the rest then follows automatically.

Technical Help / Re: Word
« on: Sunday 28 January 24 15:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hi what you are talking about comes under the general heading of software - ie programs which you use to do things.

MS Word is software which is used for word-processing. You can buy a copy of it separately, or it also comes as  one part of MS Office, which also includes Excel, Outlook etc.

Most likely, as you say Word  was working on your laptop before, it is still there - just hiding :-)
Two easy ways to find it :-
1) Press the Windows' key and scroll down the menu list   - Word maybe lurking under Ms_Office
OR
2) Find a Word file using Explorer - they are generally ones with a doc or docx extension, eg MYdiary.doc - and double-click that file.

It would be easier to help if you could take a photo of the screen you are looking at and add that to your post.

I remember isolated houses in the area I lived in using diesel generators. They were quite large, noisy things, usually out in a shed somewhere. That was in the 60s.

Based purely on the photo my guess is 1922ish. I'm sure if you post on a military forum, someone will be able to identify the medals.
