Yorkshire (North Riding) / Annat Hill, Clapham
« on: Sunday 05 October 25 14:48 BST (UK)  »
I'm researching RAWSTHORNE in and around Clapham, N. Yorkshire. I have a marriage of Jane RAWSTHORNE to Giles REDMAYNE on3 October 1727 in Clapham. Jane's place of residence is given as Annat Hill. Does anyone with local knowledge know where Annat Hill is? I've not been able to find it on any map.

I have the death duty registers for both William and Francis. William's (1807) names Samuel, Francis and Nicholas, but doesn't state relationships. How frustrating!

Betty Colins was born in 1777 in Stoke St Mary, daughter of Moses and Betty. Following the death of first husband Francis Wilmont she remarried to James Palfrey. As Elizabeth Palfrey she was buried in Curry Rivel in 1869. The census of 1851 and 1861 confirm her place of birth ast Stoke St Mary in 1777.

Nicholas Wilmont was baptised in West Hatch on 30 June 1799.

Thanks to all for your interest and suggestions

Somerset / Wilmont/Willment family Curry Mallet

I'm researching my wife's Willment family from Curry Mallet. Francis Wilmont died in 1807, but I have so far not found a birth record for him on any of the usual databases. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Colins in West Hatch in 1798. She was born in 1777, so Francis may have been born around 1775 perhaps. Any clues or suggestions welcome. Thanks

The Common Room / Burial of prisoners in 18th century
« on: Friday 20 June 25 14:48 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know whether a prisoner dying in custody in the 18th century would have their burial recorded in a local parish register, or whether they would be buried without record at the prison or elsewhere?

I also have John Wilson and Sophia Longhurst in my ancestry (descended from Eliza Wilson and William Colebrook). This is amazing information and connects to the Scottish Wilson dna connection that I have via 23 and me

Hi Lia Fen, I have only just read your post. I would be very interested to know more of your connection with John Wilson and the Scottish dna link. Happy to share my information on John Wilson.

Armed Forces / John Wilson, Scots Royals
« on: Thursday 09 November 23 15:39 GMT (UK)  »
John and Sophia Wilson christened their son John at Kirkby Moorside, Yorkshire, on 7 June 1814.
John is recorded as "Private in the Scots Royals" and a "casual traveller". Does this suggest he was at that point still in the regiment and if so what was he doing as a casual traveller there in Yorkshire? Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have a John Wilson (1779-1834) and Sophia Longhurst (1788-1853), my 3x gt grandparents. I have not found a marriage. Between the birth of their first child, William, in Bexhill in 1810 and the second, Eliza in 1818 in Brighton there is a gap of 8 years. Both Bexhill and Brighton were barracks towns and I wonder if my John Wilson had an army connection? Unfortunately he has a name which was common in the muster lists of numerous regiments.

Any clues or suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks

The Common Room / Ancient Order of Druids
« on: Tuesday 25 July 23 18:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I've learnt that my great grandfather was a member of the Ancient Order of Druids, Royal Victoria Lodge (No.247) in Tunbridge Wells. With his name are the initials P.N.A. and R.A.C. Does anyone know what these stand for?
Also does anyone know if AOD records survive anywhere?
Thanks
