I have a relative who was baptised twice.

When she was born, she was baptised in her home town.

Her mother died following childbirth, and her aunt and her husband then took her into their home. She was baptised again at their local church.

Thanks for that reminder about the online memorial books - useful tip. :)

I just looked in the archives catalogue, though they have Liverpool (Anfield) Crematorium registers listed, they do not have anything in the catalogue for Springwood Crematorium Registers.
Perhaps they are still held by the Crematorium and have not yet been deposited.

This old thread popped up in a search result and so I thought I’d add something in case it is helpful to anyone.

I’m now working on my husband’s family tree. He’s from Liverpool and so he has many relatives who were cremated either at Anfield or at Springwood.

No problem pre-1975 – the cremations were at Anfeld and I found quite a few records on Ancestry.

But I was confused to see my husband’s grandparents feature in the same set of ‘Liverpool Crematorium’ records. They died in 1981 and were cremated at Springwood.

So I contacted the Liverpool Archives today and they told me that all the crematorium records are listed together under ‘Liverpool Crematorium’ – both online and in the originals. I was surprised to hear that.

So for anyone looking at the Liverpool Crematorium records on Ancestry for post-1975 cremations, these events could have been at Anfield or Springwood and you won’t find that information online.

The Archives recommended checking local newspapers (eg Liverpool Echo) for death notices, to find the correct venue (which I had already started to do).

The Common Room / Re: Wrong info on Ancestry Trees
« on: Sunday 23 March 25 16:39 GMT (UK)  »
A few months ago I noticed an error on a tree – not a close relative of mine, but I thought I would point it out to the tree owner.

The owner had uploaded a lovely photograph of their ancestor’s house, together with a map and an arrow showing its location.

I live in the area and suspected it was incorrect and so I checked the relevant Census document.

Their ancestor lived about a mile away from that location, in a street with a very similar name. When I want to be sure about addresses I scroll forwards and backwards in the Census to check the enumerator’s route, and so I know I was correct.

I messaged them to explain. They did acknowledge the message and said they would look into it.
They still have the incorrect address, photo and map in place.

It’s their loss I suppose – they don’t live in the area, and I was going to offer to take a photo of the correct property for them, had they shown any real interest. (Or maybe I'm being unkind and they just have other priorities in their life!)

However, because Ancestry users love photos so much, many people have copied, perhaps assuming that anyone who has gone to the trouble of uploading a photo and creating a map is bound to be correct.

So these days, if I spot something I’m pretty sure about I just add a polite note to the tree – then others might spot the note and think twice about copying the tree's information without checking it first.

According to Suffolk FHS Harriet Elizabeth Eaves(sic) was buried at St Mary, Bures St Mary 10 May 1873 and John Eves was buried there 17 October 1885

Thank you so much for the information and the speedy help. :)

I’d love to be able to confirm the burial places of two ancestors who died in Bures St Mary, Suffolk.

If anyone has access to the appropriate records I’d be really grateful.

The people concerned are:

Harriet Elizabeth Eves, died 4 May 1873, age 62, wife of John Eves, Farm Labourer.

John Eves, died 11 October 1885, age 75. Farm Labourer.

I understand that a cemetery opened in Bures St Mary in 1872, so perhaps they were buried there… or if not, in the churchyard?

Many thanks.

Great that everyone could add to your request for newspaper cuttings.
All adds to the family stories.

Sandra

Yes, cuttings can be such a great help.

I've been considering whether to subscribe to Ancestry's newspaper archive, or to the British Newspaper Archive. I'm leaning towards the latter, just because it covers an important local newspaper that appears not to be on Ancestry's list.

Many thanks again.

Many thanks for taking the trouble to compile and post all that information for me!

Funnily enough I had just been looking at the 1911 Census to flesh out the family a bit – having had my curiosity raised when I wanted to know what had happened to Cornelius.

It was odd her children had the surname Holland and yet Cornelius's birth was registered as McGee and he was baptised as such, but I guess they were just one of the many couples living a man and wife and varying the names that appeared in documents. As you point out, they married much later.

Thanks again.  :)

You may or may not have seen these two entries for brother John McGee................

UK, Commonwealth War Graves, 1914-1921 and 1939-1947  and UK, Merchant Seamen Deaths, 1939 -1953

Yes I had, thank you. They came up on Ancestry.

I appreciate your posting them for me, though.  :)
