Lancashire / Re: LIVERPOOL COWKEEPERS

Many years ago I worked briefly for a  company that made plastic bottle caps and their premises were in a former cow sheds not far from Lark Lane, I remember a good tiled floor.

Many thanks for your replies, they are much appreciated, really helps me to get to grips with the register.

Dawnsh, Thank you for your interesting replies re 1939 register. Perhaps you can clarify somethings for me. The redacted entries, why? Can they be uncovered if the subject is dead? I notice that all entries are on the left page, what is on the opposite page ?  I don't live in Liverpool but was there last week and I learned from a number of people that there is still much to be digitised, particularly that referring to seaman. Regarding to parts of the register used and held by NHS, has that been digitised, can it be accessed? Also those entries of military and seamen, which I will assume will included those civilians on war duties. Is there an informal authorative guide I can see?
Best wishes,
Terry

I see what the 6.2 means now (sorry not the sharpest knife today) Reading that guide gives the impression that the 1939 register was carried out in England & Wales, does this mean that a separate exercise was carried out in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Channel Islands etc.

That's very interesting Dawnsh, but where can we see them - National Archives? Not sure what the 6.2 in your reply means.

I get that if they were away at sea they weren't on the register, but what happened when they came home, they needed i.d. cards and ration books ? I am looking at several men who aren't on the register but their families are. Where did they register ?

AureliaSB; I don't think so. I haven't found any connections to Blackburn with anyone of that generation so far.

Kiltaglassan; Thank you for your suggestions, taken on board !

Aghadowey; I didn't realise that records were kept in Belfast for those places that became Northern Ireland after partition, I had been reading that they were all kept in Dublin. I have got quite a bit of information from parish records organised from there.

Sorry for posting like this but haven't worked out how to reply to individual replies yet !

Family History Beginners Board / Carroll family
« on: Wednesday 30 March 22 16:32 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone, just joined and my first post. I'm researching a Carroll family who came to Liverpool in about 1840 (famine time ?). The earliest I have is Thomas Carroll who lived and died in or around Athleague in Roscommon in 1790, or that is what I believe. I can follow a blood line from him to present day Liverpool, I think ! At a more recent time we have a Galloway connection from Armagh, Co. Tyrone which is proving to be more difficult to trace. Has anyone been to Dublin Record Office, if you have is it worth the trip? If any of this strikes a chord with anyone drop me a message, perhaps we can help each other.
Best wishes, UncleTerry
