Hi Alan,

Thank you for going to so much trouble. I'm not sure that the 1841 family is correct as yet, but I hope so. I think I have just found his death at Morpeth, March 1895 age 61. Sorry! should have written at Beverley, December 1898 age 53. Ann was a widow in the 1901 census.
So his marriage and death indicate his birth as c1844 and the 3 census records (which I know are correct) as 1838/40.
I haven't had much time to search the census properly, but I came across a George age 4 at Dorchester, Dorset in the 1851. On this it seems as if his mother is Mary Davis...married but no husband with her. The head of household is her widowed sister-in-law Elizabeth Amor.

Regards,
Doreen

Thank you so much. I was going round in ever decreasing circles. Great what a fresh pair of eyes can find - especially when they know what they are doing.

I'm very grateful.

Berkshire / Where to look?

Hi all,
I would really appreciate some help with this one!
I'm looking for George Davis. On the 1871/81 and 91 census he is married and living in East Riding of Yorkshire and he gives his birth year between 1838 and 1840. He married Ann/e Parkinson 2nd June 1868, says he is 24 and his father William Davis.
His place of birth is always Dorchester, but varies between Dorset and Berkshire. There are several options on the 1841 census, but I am completely out of my depth on where to look for registrations for Dorchester.

Regards,
Doreen

Oh yes.
And a bit cheaper too. A much more personalised service.
If you specifically request, the copy will be a photocopy of the original handwriting and not one copied out by an employee!
Regards,
Doreen
p.s. Don't dismiss Alice having another christian name. Some people just dropped a name they didn't like!

Hi Becky,

All things considered;
Her birthday was 14 January
She was 17 on 5 Sept. 1925
she was 3 years old on the 1911 census

I think her birth registration would be the March quarter of 1908

I would contact Sheffield register office for a birth certificate. You don't need a reference number, and you have her father's name.

Doreen

Had a quick look at some of your earlier posts to see if there was any other information.

You have the 1911 census which gives her age as 3. If this was correct, then she could have been born between April 1907 and April 1908.

She married in 1925. Was this at Hull to a Christopher Cunnungham? What was the date of the marriage and how old did Alice say she was?
Also you gave her birthday as 14 January.
Alice Cunningham died Jan 1996 at Hull, birth 14 Jan, age 88
Was her birthday just before she died?

Doreen

There's an Alice Ellis at Sheffield in March 1909.
Ref. no. 9c 552

If you have her married name and when she died, it might be possible to pinpoint her birth registration more accurately.

I have suggested to Andrea that she tries the South Africa board as without some further information on William in South Africa there isn't much point in researching in England until we know when William (Edward) was born.
Thank you to those who tried to help, it is very much appreciated.

Doreen
