Thank you for going to so much trouble. I'm not sure that the 1841 family is correct as yet, but I hope so. I think I have just found his death at Morpeth, March 1895 age 61. Sorry! should have written at Beverley, December 1898 age 53. Ann was a widow in the 1901 census.
So his marriage and death indicate his birth as c1844 and the 3 census records (which I know are correct) as 1838/40.
I haven't had much time to search the census properly, but I came across a George age 4 at Dorchester, Dorset in the 1851. On this it seems as if his mother is Mary Davis...married but no husband with her. The head of household is her widowed sister-in-law Elizabeth Amor.
