Hi
In regard to 1851 census for New Cumnock - my 2Ggrandad is George Lammie - i have checked my tree - no blackwoods.
We are a strong farming family still today George at 15 worked as a shepherd for Blackwoods he later had his own farm.
I also have some Heron's in my tree - farmer folk generally married other farming folk!
Suggestion - look at some old farming info around ayrshire - i have found odd bits of info on my tree this way. I have also found books with stories recorded in too - from this i also found a marriage linking to Robert Burns and Robert Burns documenting one of my ancestors - I would not have found the link if stayed on ancestry pages.
James Blackwood 28 b Kirkconnel, Dumfries - shepherd
Christina 22 b Muirkirk, Ayrshire
Helen 9 b New Cumnock
Jannet 5 b New Cumnock
George Lammie 15 servant b Kirkcudbright

Happy hunting!
