Shropshire / Re: William Morris born 1858 in Asterley, Shropshire

Thanks everyone for your input.

On the baptism record for Ann Rowson in 1858 Clun there is no father's or mother's name just Ann Rowson 1858 Clun 6a 533. How do you see the father's name without ordering a certificate. Would a birth certificate from 1858 have that info on it do you think?? :-)

Could I ask Kloumann how do you know that "The Ann born in Clun is daughter of William Rowson & Amelia Francis, married 1850, Shrewsbury." please?
The reference for that birth is 6a 533 but the record itself just states that an Ann Rowson was born in Clun in the first quarter of 1858 (no parents names mentioned).....
Thanks :-)

Thanks Comberton.
Although there are possible William Morris' born in Shropshire I cannot find one that is specifically from Asterley as yet.....
I'm hopeful someone out there has him as a relative too and has positive evidence of it being him....

Although I found a marriage between a William Morris and an Alice Ann Rowson, I just can't believe that someone who was baptised as Ann Rowson then stated their name as Alice Ann upon marriage and then was again known as Ann once married (Morris)!

Has anyone found other examples of this in their tree?
Thanks again  :)

Lancashire / Orlando Morris on 1921 census
« on: Wednesday 26 March 25 13:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi.
I'm trying to trace my great grandfather's line (Orlando Morris born 1882) but cannot find him or his wife Margaret Ann (Corless) or their family on the 1921 census.
I have the 1891, 1901 and 1911 censuses but can't locate the 1921 census with them on.
If anyone knows how I can find it, please let me know. Thanks :-)

Thanks everyone but if someone was baptised as Ann Rowson why would they call themselves Alice Ann Rowson upon marriage but then not at anytime afterwards (just Ann Morris once married). It just doesn't quite add up to me. I appreciate your input though.

Lancashire / Searching for William Morris and Ann Rowson marriage record
« on: Wednesday 26 March 25 10:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Can anyone help me locate a William Morris who states he was born in Asterley, Shropshire in 1858 on the 1901 census (but Liverpool, Lancashire on the 1891 census!).
He married an Ann Rowson (born in Bishops's Castle in 1858) but I cannot find a record of his birth, her birth or their marriage definitively!
They moved to Liverpool, Lancashire and may have married there instead of Shropshire possibly....
The only marriage I can find between a William Morris and a lady whose surname is Rowson is one in 1881 but she is called Alice Ann Rowson, not just Ann Rowson so I don't feel it's the right one....

Is anyone else researching this William Morris or Ann Rowson and can shed any light/evidence on this please?
Thanks

Lancashire / Re: Lily Hilton Parkinson

Hi,

Have you considered getting the birth certs for Lily and James given in reply #1 and reply #10 to see if they match birth dates given in 1939 register entry for couple. One or both may help to confirm if these are yours.

HILTON, LILY  - (no mother name listed but reply #3 has her as Hilton born Upholland)
GRO Reference: 1891  M Quarter in WIGAN  Volume 08C  Page 163

BROWN, JAMES  mmn BEECH (This is the only entry for birthdate given and POB)
GRO Reference: 1886  M Quarter in ORMSKIRK  Volume 08B  Page 862

Also another possibility is the William Beech mentioned as father could be a family member of his mother, as he had no knowledge of his 'Brown' father. It has not been unknown that people did that.

Just a thought

Also in reply #2 Lancs OPC has the father's name as William Beech. (No Grundy)

Can you take a screenshot of father's name from the copy you received from GRO, can then compare to original on Ancestry to see if added? Ancestry has the scanned copy of original.

Hi again

I have ordered the certificate for Lily Hilton born in Upholland but haven't received it yet.

Does anyone know if it's possible to trace babies given up for adoption (in case Ann Foster isn't James Brown's birth mother - maybe she was his foster mother)??

Thanks again everyone! :-)
