Lancashire Lookup Requests / Elizabeth Haughey b 1877,
« on: Tuesday 16 May 06 21:04 BST (UK)  »
Looking for relatives of Elizabeth Haughey, a daughter of Mary McConville and John Haughey originally from Bambridge, Newry. Northern Ireland.  She was one of 5 children, being the youngest born in 1877. I believe that her father had a farm in Ireland and later became a landlord when the family moved to Liverpool. Her cousin John McConville was educated in Ampleforth College. He was later Rector of a college in Oxford. Elizabeth was particularly close to her cousin Maud Haughey.
Elizabeth went on to marry John Donnelly at Our Ladys Eldon Street on the 22.7.1900. Out of her many children my mother Jane was the youngest born in 1916.
There is also an American connection, these cousins visited Elizabeth after the 2nd World War and sent parcels of food and clothing during the war and into 1950s. One of them received a Purple Heart.
Any info greatly appreciated.
Regards Eileen.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / German Sailor, Engelbrecht/Engelbert,Toxteth Park
« on: Monday 15 May 06 20:06 BST (UK)  »
Any help out there with this one:
Found this mans family in Upper Mann Street, Toxteth Park,1881/1891, number 116. Cannot find any trace of him, my greatgrandfather. A ships Steward/cook, aged about 31/41 at this time, name of Emil David ENGELBRECHT, a German from somewhere near the Swiss border I am told. Changed his name to ENGELBERT/ENGLEBERT and dropped the Emil. Interned in 1914 in Liverpool it is said!. His wife Sarah (Langshaw) died 1908 in Liverpool. They had 6 kids that survived, lost a few. He does not appear in any of the censuses of the time and it is said he changed his name again, to what nobody can tell me, whilst he was at sea. I think my man was quite fearful for his safety as many Germans where at this time and so made it as difficult as possible for anyone to uncover his identity.
