I note the record for Rachel & Samuel on Ancestry, there is also this below.

Joseph Buck
Baptism Date:   9 Aug 1775
Baptism Place:   Monk Soham, Suffolk
Mother:   Sarah Buck

Also this, I wonder if this Rachel is related to Sarah?

Sarah Buck
Baptism Date:   5 Oct 1777
Baptism Place:   Monk Soham, Suffolk
Mother:   Rachel Buck

I guess this is Benjamin, about one mile away from Monk Soham. Given the eleven year gap from 1775 to 1786, I wonder if it is the same Sarah?

Benjamin Bucke
Birth Date:   25 Jul 1786
Baptism Date:   4 Feb 1787
Baptism Place:   Kenton, Suffolk
Mother:   Sarah Bucke

Colin

Thanks for your reply Colin, its much appreciated.

Yes, that Benjamin is the one from my tree, on SFHS records it says that he was baptised in Kenton, but their abode was in Monk Soham. It does seem a rather large age gap with his other siblings, I hadn't thought that it could be a different Sarah, but what are the chances that it would be? There are only 3 Bucke's baptised in the Hoxne deanery and all 3 have Sarah Bucke listed as their mother.

Its very interesting about Rachel, and its likely she could be related to Sarah, something to try and unpick!

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a little help regarding the paternal line of my family tree please. Through records and Suffolk FHS I've found my 4th Great Grandfather:

Benjamin Bucke - born 25/07/1786, Monk Soham
                        - Married 02/08/1807, Stowmarket to Mary Ann Ward
                        - died 09/06/1862, Cretingham

Suffolk FHS birth records for Loes and Orford list his baptism on 04/02/1787 in Kenton, Suffolk. He's listed as baseborn with no Father and his Mother listed as Sarah Bucke. I've found that Sarah also had 2 other children; Rachel Bucke (1770) and Samuel Bucke (1772).

I'm now at a dead end and can't seem to find anything of Benjamin's Father, or any information on Sarah Bucke, is anyone able to shed any light and help please?

Marriage;
26 May 1805
St George, Hanover Square, Westminster
Mary Ann LANCETER to William DICKINS

1851 Census has a Mary Dickins age 68, pob unknown as a Charwoman in Middlesex. Widow.

+ a Burial 20 Mar 1815, St. John The Evangelist, Westminster
Mary DICKINS age 32 (1783)

Both above on Anc.

Hi Trish,

Thanks for all that info, if Marys parents were from Middlesex that might explain why Robert and Marys Daughter Rebecca was born in Pimilco and on a marriage application Roberts address was in Pilmico even though they were to be married in Suffolk. Definitely something to look into more, and I have an ancestry subscription which should come in helpful. Always throws me when the spellings of names change though!

Mary Ann Bucke bc.1806, death entry June qtr.1873 Plomesgate.

Hi Annette,

Thank you for your help, I didn't realise it was an application, I wonder where they got married then? Yet another mystery to try to unpick!

Hi Alan,

Thank you for you reply and warm welcome. The information you've provided is greatly helpful thank you and gives me a bit more to go on!

I found this entry of Marriage on FamilySearch which I believe could be for Robert Bucke and Mary Ann Dickens, i'm finding reading the handwriting fairly hard but think it could possibly be Earl Soham?

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6SVQ-JV?i=69&cc=1824690

I'm unsure of when Mary died, but both Robert and Mary Ann are on the 1871 census, but on the 1881 Robert is listed as a widow living with his Daughter, and Roberts death was registered in Q1 1885 in Plomesgate.

I'll definitely have a look at Suffolk FHS as it looks like there could be a wealth of Knowledge on there, and I know I have a lot of ancestors from Suffolk.

Thanks again, Amy

Suffolk / Bucke/Dickens in Monk and Earl Soham

Hi everyone,

I recently took over my Father's work on the family history when he passed a few years ago, and I seem to have hit a brick wall down one branch of the tree.

I've managed to get as far as Robert Bucke (1810 - 1885) born in Earl Soham and his wife Mary Ann Dickens (1806 - ) born Monk Soham. They had three children, Julia Rebecca, Horace Walter and Robert Dickens. I ordered Robert Dickens Buckes birth certificate (my 2 x great grandfather) to double check his Mother was Mary Ann Dickens as many others on ancestry have Robert Buckes wife as a Mary Ann Chaston and this confirmed it was indeed Dickens and explains the name of Dickens being used as a middle name.

Freereg have a baptism entry for a Mary Dickens in Monk Soham in 1806 which lists their Mother as Mary Lancester, do you think this could be correct?

I'm struggling as finding records from Suffolk seems quite hard and I now don't know where to turn. Do you have any suggestions or are any of you researching these names?

Many thanks in advance,

Amy
