One of the reasons why I love looking at newspapers is because they give you a contemporary perspective. I thought it would be fun to see what people thought about the census in 1921. From my research, I discovered that there was a lot of concern surrounding the questions and loss of privacy. You also get a real sense of the scale of the task. Forms were dropped off in the preceding week and then had to be collected on one day, June 20th. The population of England and Wales was close to 38 million so it was a huge achievement to get everybody recorded.
