thanks,

This must not be my William Duggan as he was granted a 'Certificate of Freedom' in 1826- two years prior to the census and i'm pretty sure those intials are T.L.

Hi,

I'm trying to work out if 'my' William Duggan is the William Duggan listed in the below census of 1828.

He arrived in Sydney from Ireland on a convict ship called the 'Tyne', he was sentenced to 7 years and was born in 1802.

His age and sentence are correct however the ships name doesn't look like the Tyne to me. There was no other William Duggan’s' that arrived in Sydney in 1819 so I'm a bit perplexed?

Also could someone kindly explain what 'Class' means and what the initials stand for,

Many Thanks  :)

I have a copy of the death certificate - his wife, Charlotte Duggan, was the informant. I realise that death certificates are not always accurate however it's a start.

Thanks so much for the info re: Saunders Newsletter. I'm trying to create an account now :-)

Dublin / William Duggan Prison Records

Hi,

I’m trying to find any prison records or any more information that I can on a William Duggan or William Dugan, Born 1800 to 1802.
I’m hoping some of you amazing people may have better luck than I have. What I have been able to learn:

• Parents listed on his death certificate are William Duggan & Susan Miller
• He was convicted in Dublin in Jan 1818 for ‘pick pocketing’, sentence was 7 years transportation to the colonies.
• Convicted January 1818 (exact date unknown, I have hit a wall trying to find any more information regarding this)
• He was sent from Newgate Prison to Kilmainham Goal on 18 March 1818 (unsure why he was sent from Newgate Prison to Kilmainham Goal)
• On 6 June 1818 he was sent to board a convict ship called the ‘Tyne’ (would love to know how prisoners were transported from Dublin to Cork and what that journey would have been like)
• Tyne departed Cork on 16th July 1818 and arrived in Sydney 13th Jan 1819

Happy for any information, suggestions or anything that you can find!  :)

Update - thanks to 'wivenhoe' I now have a newspaper article about the robbery which states that William had 'been in custody before upon a similar charge'........ AMAZING! but where do I start to look for the last charge....

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone would be visiting the Western Sydney Records Centre, which holds the state archives and would be able to look something up for me.

I'm specifically after a ‘Photograph Description Sheet’ for a prisoner that was in Maitland Goal from 1938 to 1940. According to their website this is only available in person as these records have not been digitised: 'NRS - 2328 Photograph description sheets (Maitland Goal) 25.07.1930 to 26.05.1970)

Also happy for any other suggestions on how I could obtain these records without having to physically go there. Or if you can pay someone from the state archives to do this or someone else?
Hope this is OK to ask.

Kind Regards, Heidi

Wigtownshire / Re: Marriage Record

Thankyou for your reply - I was wondering about the validity of this document and although I'm very new to geneology I do try and be as acurate as possible.
On Bernard Mooneys death certificate it states that he was married in PortPatrick, Scotland, however as death certificates are completed by next of kin they too can be unreliable.

Wigtownshire / Marriage Record

Hi,

I'm looking for a marriage record for the below:

Mary Alexander born 1806 to 1808 in Portpatrick
to
Bernard Mooney born 1803, Londonderry, Ireland

The reason I believe they were married in Portpatrick is due to the document attached, however I can’t locate this anywhere?

They immigrated to Australia in 1840. I'm very familiar with searching Australian records, however I have to admit Scotish records perplex me.

I believe Mary's parents to be William or John Alexander and Margaret Kelly. Any help locating anything about them or Mary's birth records would also be appreciated. :-)

Kind Regards, Heidi
