Yorkshire (West Riding) / Sarah Bedford Born 1821
« on: Sunday 18 January 15 14:17 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for Sarah Bedford Born 1821 Alverthorpe Wakefield she was the daughter of David Bedford and his wife Hannah (Nee Hartley) who were married at St. Johns church Wakefield 22nd December 1816. I have a death date for Sarah 1887 but cannot be sure this is correct.
Sarah had the following siblings - George B. 1818, Harriett B. 1820, Thomas B. 1823, Mary Ann B. 1825, Joseph B. 1827 my Bloodline, John B. 1829 and James B. 1834.
I can not seem to find any information for her - marriage if she did marry or children
Maybe fresh eyes can see something I am missing
Many thanks for reading my request
Kind regards Susan

« on: Thursday 01 January 15 22:43 GMT (UK)  »
My late Aunt was in the Land Army in Cornwall during World War 2. She was born and lived in West Yorkshire, would there be any records about this or anywhere I could contact . I know she married in Cornwall from her marriage certificate. Any help would be very much appreciated on this subject
Kind regards Susan  :)

If correct names were used all the time this family history research would be so easy  ;D
I am called Susan and have never introduced myself as anything else (my mother would correct everyone and anyone who had the nerve to call me Sue with the words we call her Susan ,she is not an indian!) but yet people refer to me as Sue. In my family I am Susan, but after 50 odd years I have stopped correcting people, that is why I gave my daughters short names
Kind regards Susan

The Lighter Side / Re: Why was a given only 1 christian name

Many, many thank for all your lovely replies (I loved the one about fish and chips).  :)
I was talking to my daughter about the subject over Christmas and she tells me she loves her names (lucky girl has 2). I think we get used to our names and we are quite possessive about them, and of course they were chosen by our parents. People seem to suit their name, and sometimes you cannot imagine them having any other name.
Kind regards Susan

My grandson has his mothers maiden name for one of his names.  Looks like most of us would like more than 1 name  :)
Love the idea that names were given to children of childless relatives, to hopefully remember them in their will, I do not think any of my family could have been childless ;D
Kind regards Susan

The Lighter Side / Why was a given only 1 christian name
« on: Wednesday 24 December 14 15:28 GMT (UK)  »
I have only 1 christian (or forename) and so have most of my family! I would love to have at least 1 more name, but it is not to be. My beautiful grandson has 3. Could anyone help me with the information that I have, that working class people were just given 1 name (mostly) and that better off people had more names? My father once told me that 1 name was considered enough, anyone any thoughts on this. Only my grandmother had 2 names Jane Elizabeth which I think is lovely.
Kind regards
Susan  :)

World War One / Re: John William Brook
« on: Wednesday 12 November 14 20:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Andrew, I too have a photo of your grandma Clara but any other photos of family members I would welcome. My grandfather was Lawton Brook (not Leighton) the youngest child of Eliza Brook. My father talked of his Aunt Clara and Uncle Jimmy (James Brook - full sibling of my Grandfather). We share the same great Grandmother Eliza Brook.  Like your Grandmother I was a Brook before I married.
If you are interested in the Brook family history I have lots of information (15 years worth)
 Kind Regards Susan
