Thanks everyone for the information, it is greatly appreciated. I'll sit with it all and hopefully work a plan of likely leads that fit the time period, location etc.. I can't find any reference to his religious denomination as on his death certificate it is not registered, but I guess owing to the area and denominations at the time that should help.

Cheers,
Eunice.

Hi Alan,

Thank you, yes I have the land information. Benjamin was born around 1827 so it could be possible that Mary was a sister. It's just difficult to confirm without census information to confirm they were in the area as I understand census records prior to 1841 were lost??

Kia ora everyone,

I am looking for relatives of my x3 great grandfather Benjamin Hearse, born approx 1827 in Tandragee. He enlisted in Banbridge aged 18 with the 65th regiment arriving in Auckland New Zealand on the 27/11/1846.

He was discharged to Wanganui in 1860, married and then died in Halcombe NZ in 1906.

We have only just discovered this information regarding his place of birth via this amazing platform but unfortunately do not have anything further on him or his parents/family.

I've tried looking for records of other Hearse family members in the district around that time period (1820-1850's) but as I have no definitive information on his parents, I'm floundering!

Various members of my family have mentioned he may have had a brother called Thomas Hearse and his father may have been James Hearse or the other way around but that has never been verified.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Merry Christmas.

Thanks,
Eunice. :)

Kia ora everyone,

I am new to rootschat and this is my first post - I am trying to find my great, great great grandfather Benjamin Thomas Hurst/Herse/Hearse/Hearst/Hirst. His name on his death certificate is Benjmain Herse and he died in 1906 in Halcombe New Zealand at age 87 approx, and listed on his death certificate is a birth place of Ireland but no county -  his spouse's name is correct on the death certificate so I know its the right person. We have a record to show he was a private with the 65th Regiment from 1845-1850.
The family story we've been told is he stole a loaf of bread and was apparently sent to VDL and I'm wondering if he was one of the Parkhurst Boys - his birth we estimate is around 1815-1818. He may have also have been under Thomas Benjamin Hurst and another family member has said he may have had a brother called James or his father may have been called James. I know this isn't a lot to go on but it is all that we have.
Any  nfomration would be greatly appreciated thankyou, Eunice.
