Derry (Londonderry) / Re: Craig - flax farmers in Gortree

Hi all,  Just doing an check on the Craigs on Ancestry and came by the William Bannatyne Craig death record posted on another tree and previously mentioned in this thread.  Strangely when I looked up the death on the Victorian BDM site it lists it as a Birth Certificate not death and the place of birth is Yambuk (near Pt Fairy in Victoria) which does not have a connection to our Craigs that I am aware of. I also looked on the Geelong Cemetery Trust website and found nothing for W.B. Craig although there are numerous Craig family members buried here including (Ernest) John and Sarah.
Believe that record may need to be investigated a bit more to include with our Craigs.
Best wishes for the new year to all.  Cheers JayJay

Hello folks, first time on Rootschat but a longer user of Ancestry.  The Hannah Greer married to John Rainey is the daughter of Elizabeth Ann Sheals and Robert Greer.   Sheals/Sheilds/Shields is my connection to the family.  From a fairly detailed family tree on Ancestry the following are listed as family of Henry Rainey (death 1876) and Charlotte Casey 1822-1888 - Henry (b 1846), Rose (1850) Robert (1852) James (1853) and John 1858-1946.  Hope this helps.  While I can't guarantee the research of the Raineys, the other information relative to my family has aligned with my own and I try to be very careful about information I see.
If any of you have come across any Sheals/Sheilds/Shields, Patrick Sheilds m Nancy Hall, both born about 1800 I would be very pleased.  Their son James born about1842 left in 1863 for
Australia as did his sisters Jane, Hannah (Mackrell) and Margaret.  Cheers JayJay

Hello folks, have just joined Rootschat and enjoying this thread.  My forebears were Shields/Sheils/Sheals of Portglenone/Ahoghill area.  My g/grandfather James Shields left Antrim in 1863 aged 21 for Australia.  His parents were Patrick Shields and Nancy Hall.  From what I know only one sister, Elizabeth Ann remained in Ireland and married Robert Greer in 1850.
If anyone has come across Patrick and Nancy I would be very pleased.
Cheers JayJay

Hello there folks, new to Rootschat and fascinated to read this information about the Craigs of Gortree.  William Craig was my great great grandfather, Susan Semple Craig my great grandmother so all relevant to me.
Need to digest all the information.  Thank you for your posts.  Regards JayJay
