Tyrone / Re: Stewart’s of Corrigan / Killymoon

Sorry forgot to include an important detail. There are multiple Deeds of Memorial which link John Scott & Marg. Stewart on the same Deed to an Alexander Scott--role never specified. One dates to 1751. I would imagine, if I am correct with my  line of thinking about Margaret Stewart & John Scott, that the Alexander Scott listed could be a son, but not the eldest. That was William. I have seen evidence for an Alexander Scott that died in 1833--he was quite old, and one who was a Church elder at the 1st Donagheady Church as of 1835. A lot of work to get done, any assistance appreciated.

I am writing this forum in regards to my potential connection to Captain James Stewart of Killymoon, I am researching my Scott family. I suspect John Scott & Margaret Stewart/Stuart to be the Grandparents or G Grandparents of my 3rd G Grandmother Catherine Scott born 1798 (she married William Donaldson born 1784). Her father was an Alexander Scott who married an Osborn(e), probably from Bovevagh, Derry. A local hint led to the discovery of a Joseph Scott (born 1793) from Tullyblety, Tyrone who I believe emigrated with my 2nd G Grandfather John Donaldson born 1826. Tullyblety is adjacent to Thorney Hill where my 4th G Baird Grandparents had an estate--basically  they married their grandson off to the neighbours? After checking numerous Scott Memorial Deeds, I am attempting to learn more about the Scotts of Dungannon--Tullyblety and their movement to the Bready /1st Donagheady Church area where Catherine & William lived. Any guidance is appreciated. It is a big undertaking, requiring care as it is easy to conflate the Scott families.

Derry (Londonderry) / Re: Arthur and Hutton families from Dungiven

Hello, I am posting about my Hutton family from this same area Ballyharigan. Frank-Francis & his sister Nancy both married into my Donaldson family in Frontenac County, Ontario Canada in 1850s/60s. Their parents were Archibald Hutton & Sara 'Waddle'. Frank married Mary Donaldson & Nancy married his brother James Wray Donaldson. My Hutton clan lived right by the Osborn(e)s. We are related to the Osborn(e) family.  There was a William Donaldson living in the townland of Flanders, which is slightly northwest of Ballyharigan. If you walked straight from Ballyharigan to Straw House, where the Edwards family lived north of Dungiven, you would cross Flanders. Our family is also connected to the Edwards clan through the Osborn(e)s & possibly through a rev Nehemiah Donaldson. A William Donaldson born in 1814 emigrated from Ballyharigan in 1834 to New York City. A James Hutton emigrated from Ballyharigan in 1833, he came to Kingston--I believe him to be Archibald's brother. My 3rd G Grandparents were William Donaldson 1784 & Catherine Scott 1798 from the 1st Donagheady Presbyterian Church area. William Donaldson's father John Donaldson 1750-60 was married to a Baird--a daughter of William Baird 1715 & Martha. He had a brother/1st cousin Robert Donaldson also married to a Baird. If anybody finds this information familiar please respond.

I am replying to the posting about the Scott family from Sixmilecross, Tyrone. My family hails from Tyrone & Derry Co. My 3rd G Grandparents were Catherine Scott 1798--William Donaldson 1784,  they had a son John who had a son named Robert Alexander Donaldson. Catherine Scott's father was recorded as Alexander, her mother was Mrs Osborn(e), possibly Martha or Nancy. The family history spreads from Derry down to Castlederg, Tyrone. I am now researching my Scott family history, it is a big task! Lots of Scotts around. Any help wouldbe appreciated.

I am writing again to clarify some facts from my first post, and to address "Gilby"; my 3rd G Grandmother was Catherine Scott/Mrs William Donaldson, her father was Alexander Scott & Mrs Osborne--some people have given her the name Nancy Osborne some Martha, I understand why now. Both were daughters of Samuel Osborne & Mary Edwards. Mary Edwards, daughter of Henry Edwards & his wife Mary (who was widowed when her 1st husband an Osborne passed away). Then her daughter Mary wed Samuel Osborne. If I understand your previous posting, that makes us cousins through Samuel & Mary Edwards. You stated one of their daughters was your grandmother?Mary Edwards, wife of Samuel Osborne & daughter of Henry Edwards, had an G Aunt Ann Donaldson, who married her father Henry's brother Mathew Edwards. Ann Donaldson/Mrs Mathew Edwards was a daughter of Rev Nehemiah Donaldson. Rev. Donaldson had known two kids, Ann & a son John Donaldson who became a Doctor----I believe that John Donaldson born around 1720, to be my 5th G Grandfather....Hoping we can communicate soon.

I got saw your post on Google, as I was researching the Osborne/Scott families. My 3rd G Grandmother was (born 1798) Catherine Scott/Mrs William Donaldson from the Donagheady Church/Parish area. Her parents were Mrs Osborne and Alexander Scott. I know nothing about her background. I am also researching another Donaldson family. Rev. Nehemiah Donaldson (1685-1747) who preached in Castlederg, who had a daughter Ann (1710/15-1787) who married Mathew Edwards. Same Edwards family who married into the Osbornes. I have no cause to believe at this point the two Donaldson lines are related. But they are both connected to the Edwards family, so it is something I am researching right now. I just received a copy of the Edwards family tree and will be reviewing it shortly. On a closing note, Catherine Scott Donaldson's first child was named Samuel. Another bit of information that might be relevant. I can be reached directly at                 , if anybody has any background information for me, appreciated.
