The WW1 record for George Archibald Campbell mentions his wife, Maria, of 8 Alpha St, Rye Lane, Peckham, London. His address after demobbing was Winton, Saskatchewan, near the city of Prince Albert. He was described on his attestation paper as a farmer. A search of the Winton cemetery on findagrave shows Susan Amy Knight was buried there. Unfortunately, the photo of the headstone is unreadable and there is no further information about her there.

That address is where Susan Amy's cousins lived. I've got that info form the 1921 census and Susan Amy gave that as the address for her next of kin (her cousin Robert Chas Knight) when she left to go to Canada. Marie must've lived there as well at some point too then.

Hi Sandra,

Thanks for all the info. Yes the census is her and the obituary looks like it is too. The daughter or her niece (Marie Campbell's daughter June Campbell), married someone with the surname Short so I would think that is a link to one of the pallbearers. It seems Susan was known as Amy in her day to day life from other info I've since found.

Hi Liz,

Yes that is correct. I have Susan's emigration record and it mentions she's going out there to live with her niece (in 1922). I was thinking more along the lines of getting a death record for her (I'm guessing the 1931 census isn't available yet?)

Hi,
I've come across what is almost certainly my 2x great Aunt's cemetery record on Ancestry for her burial in Saskatchewan (she emigrated there in 1922), which I've attached. Because I'm based in the UK can anyone recommend how to get more info on this? It's very stark in terms of info. Susan Amy Knight was born on 06 Oct 1865 in London but emigrated to be with her niece (who she helped raise) who was called Marie Hamilton Campbell (maiden name Marie Hamilton Knight). Susan emigrated when the rest of her family had all died. The info attached is down as part of the cemetery records for Saskatchewan, but with no further info (ideally an official death record)

Hi,

I have a couple of relatives who seemingly emigrated to Australia in the 1950s/60s and was seeking advice about where best to search for such people. Is there an equivalent to the UK's freeBMD site where you can search public databases or is it like the living struggle that is Canada where you have very limited information to search?

Many thanks in advance

Hi,

Is there anyway of finding information about a criminal investigation (in the mid-late 1930s) where an ancestor of mine was the victim, irrespective of whether charges were ever brought against any perpetrator?

I've reason to believe an ancestor was the victim of a quite unpleasant crime, but don't think they ever found anyone in relation to the offence, but don't know how to approach this. I can't post the person's name either for family reasons.

I have checked the British Newspaper Archive but wondered it there is any type of access to criminal investigations that may not have been in the newspapers.

Thanks in advance for any advice

Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions. It seems my great-grandparents didn't elope to Gretna Green after all (which was my suspicion)

Family History Beginners Board / Finding A Potential Gretna Green Marriage Record

Hi

I'm looking for a potential marriage record of two people who may have gone from England to Gretna Green in Scotland to get married at some point between 1918 and 1925. What would be the best way to search for this marriage record - I usually use the freeBMD site but I appreciate this is only for England & Wales.

Thanks in advance.

Paul.

Hi Run Kitty,

Thanks for that - that's brilliant. How do I view that? When I search their obituaries using the 'powered by legacy.com' searchbox that comes up on the Globe and Mail website it returns nothing?
