I wonder where Julia M Fenwick was in 1911 ... and what happened to her mother after 1911.. she would have only been 41 years old and Julia my G Grandmother 11years old...
Warm regards Victoria

Hello Louisamaud

So these are dates i have so far...

Samuel Hiltons parents? or was it Samuel Hylton?

Samuel Hilton (?Born in Jamaica 1790-1839 d.20th April 1839 or Nov 14th 1928) father to Sarah Hilton and her ?biological sister Margaret who married Rev Thomas Gardener d. 19/5/1881.
Gravestone at St Anns church Stanley Liverpool.

1839 Sarah Hilton would have been about 10years old when her father died  - ?still living in Jamaica with her mother?

? Mother Emily or Amelia McFatter to Sarah Hilton. This lady seems to be documented as a slave to Samuel Barrett - is McFatter the owners name? ? freed how, when, what happened to her, did she move with her daughters to the UK? Parish of St James County of Cornwall Jamaica 1831/32. Where are her family i would love to know. Seems Cinamon Hill house mentioned and also ROse Hall with the Barrett Family. Samuel Hilton appears to be a lawyer?? how long what for.... any shipping records of him travelling to and from UK?

When did Sarah Hilton and Margaret Hilton moved to UK?

bn 1826 or maybe 1829 Montego Bay Jamaica, Sarah Hilton  (Sister Margaret Hilton bn Jamaica 1811 Montego Bay?)

1834 Margaret Hilton ( Sarahs sister married Thomas Gardner 23-9-1834 in England.

What happened to Sarah Hilton between birth and 1851?

1851 Sarah Hilton 21yrs b.1830 Montego Bay Jamaica living at Stanley Parsonage Prescot Road West Derby - must be with her sister Margaret Gardner 40 yrs, Thomas Gardner 50 and their 8 children

1861 Census Sarah Fenwick(31) & Henry Fenwick (43 yrs lawyer) live with Margaret fenwick b.1853(8), William C Fenwick b.1857(4) & Mary E Fenwick b.1859(2) plus servants, So Emmeline and Collingwood had not been born at this time or Mary E Fenwick is Emmeline as she is in the 1871 census with same birth date...

5th Feb 1868 Henry Fenwick dies in Gloucester perhaps away on work

The 1871 Census Sarah (neeHilton) bn. Jamaica @ 16 Welfield Place Tox Park. Lawyers widow(Henry Fenwick)

1871 Census W.C Fenwick at Claremony School, CLairmont road Liverpool - he is 14yrs old

1871 Census search: Sarah Fenwick bn Jamaica 1853(?mistake) as this makes her 18.. and no Henry Fenwick living with them as he died 5 Feb1868
living with William Cecil Fenwick(14), Collingwood Fenwick(9), Emmeline Fenwick bn.1859(12) living at Wellfield Place Lancashire

1873 Sarah M Thelwell 28th July married  St PAuls Southport to Edward Mostyn THewell(b. 1844 D. 1899) Mildura Victoria Australia. He abandoned her from what i read and went to Australia where he died. Witnesses were Samul Hilton, Eveline Fenwick ? or perhpas this is a mistake and its her daughter Emmeline Fenwick and others...

1881 Census Sarah lived with Collingwood ? William Cecil and Emmeline?

1881 Sarahs sister Margaret Gardeners husband Rev Thomas Gardener (1801 - 19/5/1881) passes away

1884 -  Mary Emmeline ORMEROD (Nee Fenwick) married to Frank William ORMEROD and their little girl Dorothea Hylton ORMEROD born Nov 1883 and registered in Fulham district Mar Q 1884. Here is perhaps her son, seems they were in USA. https://www.ancestry.co.uk/genealogy/records/oliver-ormerod-jensen-24-9clf59
? Gravestone:https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/151020960/dorothea-hilton-jensen

I wonder if HYLTON could be the correct spelling not HILTON - need a marriage/birth certificate.

1891 Sarah Martyn Thelwell 65yrs (Nee Hilton) Birth 1826? Birthplace Jamaica. Llangollen. Resident Lenhunt Llangollen. Looks like she lived here with her son Collingwood R Fenwick bn.1862 29yrs. Collingwood born in Liverpool? lived in Lancashire then Llangollen.

1901 Census Sarah Martyn Thelwell, Jamaica British Subject b.1829. Leahurst, Llangollen Urton. A Boarder. No other Fenwick living with her?

When and who does Dr Cecil Fenwick marry?

1901 His daughter is born Julia M Fenwick ( ? her mother Caroline L Fenwick b1871) 1901 Census states Caroline 30yrs, living in same boarding house as Julia May 10months old, 43 Hortham Road, Islington, London. I've no marriage cert yet or any information on Caroline Fenwick.

1902 Dr Cecil Fenwick b.1857 Waventree Lancashire d. Feb 2nd 1902 Llangollen
Married to? These are the parents of my G Grandmother Julia M Fenwich b.

He was married to my GGG Grandmother Sarah ( nee Hilton, Maynard Fenwick), had no idea this had happened to her. How sad after losing her husband Henry Fenwick.

Hello there i have seen threads from people who have been researching my family.
Sarah nee Maynard Hilton Fenwick is my GGG Grandmother.
Trying to trace how she arrived in the UK from Jamaica, her mother Milly McFatter(?) what happened to her? and more about Samuel Hilton who appears to be my GGGG Grandfather.
Sarahs son William Cecil Fenwick was my Great grandmothers father, her name was Julia May Fenwick.
I believe Samuel Hiltons final resting place is St Anns Church Stanley and i have seen a picture of his headstone.
Perhaps someone is a relative of Sarahs sister who was older than her  - Margaret Hilton married Thomas Gardner who was the first vicar at St Anns Church Stanley ? they may know what happened. I would also love to see any photos. I have photos of Julia May Fenwick.
Please get in touch have lots of questions about my heritage.Victoria

Dear Gen List Lass

I hope you are still connected with ROOTS and checking out for messages....

I started a search on the internet for more information about my Great Great Grandfather Dr William Cecil Fenwick (died 1902 Llangollen) because my mother told me he was a surgeon at Guys Hospital in London. I was fascinated with the connection that we both worked in the same hospital probably 100 years apart. In 1997 when i worked at St Thomas and Guys NHS Hospital trust there was a medical library we visited but being before the days of internet little was catalogued so we were not able to link him with many things we were trying to find out about him.

Over the years i have looked every now and then on the internet and my mother is always telling stories of ship merchants, Liverpool and something about Jamaica but nothing concrete.
My mothers cousin gave me a family tree to look after so i will dig that out.

When William Fenwick died i am sure that Julia, her mother and sibblings remained in Ruthen/Llangollen area.

So i am the the great great grand daughter of Dr William Cecil Fenwick. It seems from following a trail on ROOTS that Sarah Hilton was his mother, Henry Fenwick( Solicitor and friends with Thomas gardener?) his father and Samuel Hilton his Grandfather & Milly or Amelia McFatte, Jamaican his Grandmother.

William Cecil Fenwick it seems had a number of children( i dont have all the details) and one of his daughters was called Julia May Fenwick it seems born.1900. Read that he grew up and was educated in Liverpool and then i think he went to medical school in Edinburgh and we seem to be able see that he graduated here as a doctor and then went to work in London and lived in Clapham area. Family say he developed TB and that is possibly when he moved to Llangollen and soon after died. My GG Grandmother Julia would have been 1 0r 2 years old... I am not sure how her mother managed financially but i always remember my GG Grandmother being hard working but well to do - always matching handbags, shoes, hats and coats. Percy was a smart and handsome man who fought in the war, again more details i need to research. We have lovely photos of them and one of him on a horse.

Julia was my Great grandmother. I remember her very well and it is one of her daughters Heather Mary who is my maternal grandmother, Heathers daughter - Rosemary Heather being my mother.

Julia married Percy Royle(not sure how they met) and they had 5 children - Cecil Royle(m. Kathleen Marsh) they had 3 girls, George Royle (couple of marriages i think and i know one of his daughters Jenny), Audrey Royle never married,no children, Heather Royle and Sheila Royle married with 1 daughter(Jenny, no one knows where she is) and a 1 daughter from a previous "war time" relationship. This daughter Barbara (living in Liverpool) has now found our family but sadly missed meeting her mother. My mum and her cousins have met her a number of times and i met up with her once.

My Great grandfather Percy Royle born 1895, lived Whittington i didn't know him he died before i was born. Percys' father was John Royle born 1852 lived in Whittington, Cheshire.
Percy was a farmer and they lived together at the start of their marriage at Minsterley The Park Farm in Shropshire.

My grandmother Heather married Alfred Evan Griffiths, Shropshire farmer ( need more information on that family!) and they had 3 children, Rosemary my mum, Peter Griffiths and Fred Griffiths. Then there are all of our generation.... i have 1 sister, 1 brother and another brother who died young.

There is so much amazing research and information on this forum its quite overwhelming to read it all - especially have loved seeing the link with St Annes Church in STanley and the gravestone of Samuel Hilton! Can feel a road trip coming on to visit Liverpool which i keep talking about wanting to visit but had no particular reason other than it looks like an amazing city and now i feel a real connection. I have always loved travel and left home at 17 yrs for Cardiff university was dead set on living in London which i did for a few years, then Edinburgh and onto Singapore for 10 years because my husband had a job opportunity so we went! Now based back in South West.

Really look forward to hearing from you or anyone else with any more information.... Best wishes Victoria
