Has anyone a marriage record of a John Kane who married a Jane Elliott. They had a son named Laurence Kane who was baptised 1st of May 1820 in Lusk, Co Dublin.

John Kane and Jane Elliott may of came down from Newtownlimavady.

O'Kane and variants (Kane etc) is one of the most common surnames in Limavady and the Roe valley.

There are four households headed by John (O')Kane in the 1831 census for Drumachose (Limavady) parish (the census only names the head of household). 2 resided in Limavady town

1831 census Newtownlimavady
John Kane Market House Street 1male/1 female = 2 Catholics
John Kane Pound Lane, Limavady 2males/1 female = 3 Catholics

If your family resided in Limavady and were Catholic they would be buried in St Canice's cemetery on the Roe Mill Road. Below is a transcript of one headstone in the cemetery.

O'KANE: Erected by William O'Kane to the memory of his father John O'Kane who died 13 August 1850 aged 72 years.

The lack of Catholic records for the early 1800s makes the task almost impossible.

The John Kane / O'Kane I have has his son baptised in Lusk in 1820 so they would of moved down from Limavady by then.

Can you find a marriage of John Kane and Jane Elliott ? I can't find anything anywhere 🤕🤕

Hi,
i am looking for information on my Great Grandparents, Michael O'Kane and Lizzy O'Kane (formally Donnachie) Michael was born in county Derry in 1867 and Lizzie in Belfast 1873. The 1901 census showed they lived in Ballyclose Street, Limavady with their five sons- James, John, Michael M, Hugh and Joseph.

1911 census shows "event place Limavady, Drumachose, county Londonderry, Irishgreen Street" with four more children, the new children being Kathleen (1903), Fredrick (1905), Patrick (1908) and Bernard Eugene (1910).

James, as mentioned above, was my grandfather who moved to Scotland some time between 1911 and 1918 as records show he married my grandmother in Scotland in 1918. I cannot find any birth, marriage or death records for Michael or Lizzie. I have no exact date of birth for James, but records show he was born in 1890.
They whole family were Roman Catholics.

If anyone can help with any information on the above, i would be very grateful if you could reply.

Many Thanks,
Jim
