Redmond Condon and Elizabeth Kelly were my great great grandparents. Their daughter Mary migrated to Australia with her sister in the 1880s. She met her husband to be Daniel Mahoney on the trip and out and reconnected accidentally in a park in Adelaide. Later they moved to Melbourne and ran a grocery shop in Carlton. They had many children…I think 10 survived, my grandmother being the second youngest.
We were always told that Elizabeth knew there was not much future for them in Ireland so she sent the kids off all round the world. She cut a lock of hair from each as they left and told them she would go to the bottom of the garden each night to pray for them and they would know she was thinking of them. A relative returned for a visit in the thirties and the box of hair was still on the mantlepiece.
