Hi there UncleNorm45, I am from Kent, England and am the granddaughter of Elsie Warner/McLeish who then became Elsie Brown.
I realise I am very late to the party reading your message from 2008 re Elsie Warner/McLeish and William Roderick McLeish but better late than never - I hope.
I was excited to see your messages and that you knew what your grandfather had been up to when he was in England back in the day.
I am Elsie's granddaughter from her later marriage to Henry John Brown. Once William went off to France with his regiment it appears Elsie was left holding the baby, literally. I read that William went on to have further children with his first wife when he returned to Canada. I thought that Elsie's connection would likely be a secret.
Elsie married Henry in 1925 (don’t know if the marriage to William was annulled) and they had two children Peter John Brown in 1926 (my father) and Hazel Brown in 1928. My dad didn't ever mention Aileen, so I wonder where she was when Elsie married Henry? She would have been 7 or 8.
Looking on Ancestry, Aileen may have gone on to have a son Anthony E D Spooner in 1938 and it looks like he unfortunately died that year too. I did find a record that indicated Aileen herself died in 1941.
Elsie sadly died in 1931 when dad and Hazel were 5 and 3. Henry went on to remarry and dad and Hazel grew up with two half sisters. Elsie was part of dad's long and distant past by the time I and my sister came along.
So, I am related to the Warner clan but don't know much about them unfortunately. After taking a DNA test last year I find I have lots of cousin matches to connect with as Elsie had lots of brothers and sisters as per your list.
Regards PeebBrown
