Thanks for trying.
The problem is that with the naked eye I can see a bit more than on my attempts to scan or photograph it.
Has anyone experience with using 'special' light to enhance faded text? UV light or some other?
Could slightly moisten the paper bring out the pencil, or would it do more harm?

I hope someone can work wonders on this very faded text. It's written in pencil on a thin piece of paper glued to the back of thick cardboard. I hope this text can give some clues about what's glued to the front of this cardboard. I won't post the front because I think it might be something rare.

I scanned it at different settings, but the only thing that worked a bit was to scan it as a photo at high resolution. The text is 100% in French, because with the naked eye a few words are more or less readable. The text was written around 1915 to 1918.

Even if your wizardry doesn't improve the text, I would welcome any advice
a) to get a better photo of this text
or
b) to 'manipulate' this piece of paper to bring the pencil more to the foreground. (without damaging it of course)

Not sure about the place where Johannes came from...

I would say this was a late 1920s early 1930s image, it is a lovely one too. The Page Boy hairstyle is worn by my MIL at around the same age and she was born in 1922. She too isn't smiling in the photo, I think that was the norm at the time.

Thanks for all the helpfull replies. They confirm my initial feeling that this photo dates from 1920 to 1935.

It keeps the mystery alive. The only potential candidates I have are born in the period 1900 - 1912, so no match I guess.
I'm going to have to look at some other family pictures to search for resemblances.

Maybe there isn't much to be said about this picture, but are there clues to date this to a certain period of time (or even decade)?
It's a photo of a young girl on a postcard, no further information on the back side. The edge is jagged.
I guess she's 12 years old as she's clearly wearing her confirmation dress.
I know that you dating specialists here know everything about English fashion, and this is Flemish (Belgian), but you never know...

You've allready done a lot of research. If you continue like that you'll eventually find your solution. I like it that you're trying to be as thorough as possible, keeping an open mind to not miss any clues.
