Hi Callum

Re the dna match and their ancestor per your post

"I have used the leads method for a 2nd Cousin Match and I know he is the descendant of William Collett and Charlotte Robbins from Worcestershire, England and this couple had about 9 children and none of their descendants I could track marrying into the Bennett surname and having a child with that name at any point and all shared matches with this person are 4-6th cousins or 5-8th cousins that share that 1840s couple or their grandparents".

I descend from that lineage, and I have a broad tree spanning siblings and cousins so I can check my tree for any marriage to Bennett if that's your missing link.

William and Charlotte are my x2 great grand uncle & aunt. Williams brother James is my x2 grt grandfather.

I'll take a look as I have traced a lot of these ancestors and their offspring.

This post is over a year old, but hopefully you'll see this reply  ;D

Kind regards,
Michelle Collett

England / Re: Thomas Collett (b 1485) - any info!

he was a joint lord of the Manor of Over Slaughter.

As far as I can discern from researching this, it appears Thomas Collet(t) was never Lord or joint Lord of any manot and it appears that there had been some confusion perhaps, with a descendant in the 1600s who did become Lord of another Manor House elsewhere but nearby.

Here's an extract from the research done:

"t Thomas Collett and Mr Venfield have been confused with John Collett and Gyles Venfield who were the Joint Lords of the Manor of Naunton in 1608, Naunton being only three miles from Upper Slaughter, within the Slaughter Hundred"

Hey Ben, will need to check if you're on same line as my Collett family but best resources for going back farther are handwritten records of the time, some will have been transcribed snd others won't have.

Which Manor do you think he was joint Lord of? There's a few Manor Houses that are linked with our family name in the area.

I do recall on my branch there being 2 brothers, if that's the same ones, but will need to go through my research notes.

In meantime, whuch branch line(s) on Brian's website do you descend from? Each are given a number.

I need to pop on to see if he's updated with info I've given him on my family and will check and see if I have anything more or, give you some resources to try.

One Name Studies: H to M / Re: HAYTER family

Hi, I'm new here, researching various parts of my family tree. I spotted this thread and wanted to add my Wiltshire HAYTER link.

My great grandfather Frank HAYTER was born circa 1890 in Winchester, Hants but the family moved to Send, Surrey and he died there 1967. His wife was Annie Louise VIVASH from Lockerley, Hants.

Frank's parents were Charles HAYTER b1848 in Winterbourne Earls, Wilts and Mary KINGSTON b1856 in Shalbourne, Wilts. I believe his father was Charles HAYTER  b 29 Oct 1815 in Pewsey, Wilts and his mother was Mary but that is tbc. His father was I believe, Thomas HAYTER b 14 Nov 1778 in Wilsford, Wilts and his wife was Elizabeth SPRINGBATT b 31 December 1775 in Pewsey, Wilts. I need to do some final checks on the earlier links but so far the information I've found matches.

Is anyone here linked to this line of Wiltshire HAYTER?
