World War Two / Re: Ministry of Aircraft Production in WW2
« on: Tuesday 27 May 25 13:18 BST (UK)  »
Thanks, Cathy.
When you say there are several people there in 1946, are you referring to a specific address (as obviously there were many people living at Oakwood Court in general)?

And on the newspaper report for a marriage to Mr Lawrence, what date is that (so that I can look it)?
Thanks again for all this

Ah, great. Thanks! That at least strengthens the ministry connection.

Yep, she's long dead. The person I'm helping research with doesn't want me to name her :(

World War Two / Ministry of Aircraft Production in WW2

Hi all, wonder if anyone can help me.
Does anyone know if there was a link between the Ministry of Aircraft Production and properties at Oakwood Court in Kensington, London during WW2? I'm kind of assuming that perhaps buildings/homes were requisitioned for the war effort, but struggling to find reliable information.

Also, it seems that Hounslow was a key place for the Ministry of Aircraft Production in WW2. Does anyone know if there are records of people that worked for that particular ministry in WW2, and if so, how/whether you can search for someone.

I can't publicly write the name of the lady I'm researching for privacy reasons (I wish I could!). But I do know that she had a connection to Oakwood Court, the war effort, and helping the war effort in Hounslow. So I'm kind of assuming it was to do with that ministry.

many thanks in advance

Sussex Lookup Requests / Help searching for Dorothy Drew
« on: Wednesday 14 May 25 18:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi, can anyone help me identify birth/family records for Dorothy Rosina Stephens-Drew please?
She appears on the 1939 register living in South Coast Road outside Brighton. She is single, but there seem to be two DOBs: 27 August 1890, and 22 August 1900.
Her death index entry on GRO in 1984 for Hove lists her DOB as 22 August 1904, and spells her surname Stevens-Drew.
There are quite a lot of electoral register entries on Ancestry starting from the 1920s through the decades, but none seem to have her living with any family from what I can see. I've been unable to find any record of her birth, or for other Stephens-Drews for that matter.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Many thanks
Nick

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Re: Jewish marriage record

Ok. Thanks all. I'll give them a look, and possibly end up just buying the GRO certificate. I was kind of hoping that they did have an official Jewish wedding to add something extra to the family tree :(

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Jewish marriage record
« on: Friday 31 December 21 13:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, would anyone have any access to Jewish marriage records in London and be able to help me by any chance? I'm trying to find the marriage of Samuel Moses to Mary Ann Caroline McDermott in Jan-March 1891. Mary wasn't Jewish, but Samuel was, and there is no CoE record I can find. They both lived around the Whitechapel/Bethnal Green/Aldgate area. Mary's father Hugh died in her infancy, so it is possible she listed John Larkin (her mother's second husband) as her father.

Any help/pointers would be much appreciated. (I have the actual GRO index), but just trying to find the parish version. Thanks so much.

Essex / Re: Livermores of Essex

Thanks all for the above (I honestly am very grateful for all your help/suggestions). I'm aware off all of the above, apart from the Ady/Guiver connection. Ann is simply listed as Any Ady in her brother's will, so I'll have a dig around there.

Regarding the property etc -- I've no confirmation that William Yalden left property to Isaac Livermore specifically. However, Isaac came into possession of Brick House via his brother John Livermore. In John's will, he leaves Brick House and various other properties to his brother Isaac to use until Isaac's death, after which he wills that the property be then given to one of Isaac's other sons (I think John from memory). So to me that indicates that John either had no children, or no surviving children by the time of his death. I've not been able to locate a marriage for that John, nor any other wills to be able to trace the history of the property before this time.

That's why I'm so eager to find a cluster of baptisms of the siblings to be able to have a real idea of where they came from.

Regarding Brick House in Little Dunmow -- it was put up for sale earlier this year for over £3 million. If only it had been left to my line!
