Ireland / Re: Trying to Find Hoey relations from Ireland

I too am looking for Hoey.  My second Great Grandmother was Elizabeth Hoey, born May 1829.  No idea who her parents were or where in Ireland she came from.  She married my second Great Grandfather Bernard (Barney) Dougherty.  I would love to find any information on Elizabeth.  I do believe that they were Catholic.

One post says Bernard was born around 1822. A possible reason for you not being able to find information about his parents is that his baptism record may not exist.
Do you know Bernard's religious denomination?

Can anyone please tell me if middle names were used often on documents?  Also, were middle names commonly used as a first name?

The reason why I ask is that my GGG Bernard Dougherty, I cannot find anything about his parents using the name Bernard, and I just wonder if perhaps that was his middle name that he may have used.

Thank you for any clarification on this.

Donegal / Need Help, Elizabeth Hoey and Bernard Dougherty
« on: Sunday 25 April 21 21:53 BST (UK)  »
I have come to a dead end in my search for my Great, Great Grandfather and GG Grandmother. Both are believed to have come from Donegal County, Ireland

Bernard (Barney, Barny) Dougherty was b March 1822, immigrated to United States from Liverpool to New York, U.S.  20 Apr 1847, married Elizabeth in 1851, d 12 Nov 1907 in Ellsworth, Pierce County, Wisconsin, U.S.
Elizabeth Hoey, b. May 1829, not sure when she immigrated to the U.S., d 20 Oct 1906 in Ellsworth, Pierce County, Wisconsin, U.S.
Together they had 9 children, all born in Wisconsin.

I would greatly appreciate any information on them and both of their parents.  I have searched far and wide and have not come up with any other information. I have 1860-1900 Census for Bernard and Elizabeth, but that is it.
