Thanks Patkzn. appreciate the information that helps to complete the picture. I found a burial record for a William Bruce in the Maitland cemetery in 1895 stating that the person was 80 years old that may be our William Rush Bruce who may have travelled to Cape Town to be near Dorcas who was institutionalized at Falkenberg for Dementia. She died in 1903 and is also buried in the Maitland cemetery. The search goes on.

Funny enough I also searched and found the site and before reading your post ordered the will. Thanks for your help. Annette are you also from South Africa and a family member of the William Rush Bruce heritage? Regards.

Hi, I am trying to find a copy of the Last Will and Testament of William Rush Bruce born 1788 died 1870 of Hintlesham, Suffolk. If someone can provide this to me or point me in the right direction to obtain this it will be appreciated. Many thanks.

Annette, the William Rush Bruce you are mentioning is the father of the son, William Rush Bruce that travelled to South Africa c., 1840-1850. He is my grandmother's, grandfather and is attested to by William Rush Bruce senior who stated in his will that his son was in the Cape Colony (see post by Hotrodpansy). I tried to post a photo of George Henry Bruce and family, c., 1860 but the process advised did not work (the Browse button did not come up). Stay well.

My Great Grandfather was George Henry Bruce, son of William Rush Bruce and my Grandmother was Lilian Bruce, his daughter. I tried to attach the photo but somehow the prompts to do this do not work. I will try to find out how to do this.

Hotrodpansy, this is fantastic news as we could not find any information of his birth in South Africa which pointed to his birth in Hintlesham. We also could not find out when he travelled to the Cape Colony and whether there was a link between William Rush Bruce and a certain Capt. Bruce at the Post Retief Barracks where he lived for a number of years. I am going to attempt to attach a photo of my Great Grandfather George Henry Bruce and family, the son of William Rush Bruce who was born at Post Retief Barracks in 1859. I have attempted to get a copy of William Rush Bruce's will from the Ipswich Legal Office. Could you possibly point me in the right direction to obtain this. Many thanks. Ernchat.

Hi Nookie, my grandmother was the granddaughter of William Rush Bruce of Post Retief. I also saw the burial records of a William Bruce that could match William Rush Bruce that was buried in the Maitland cemetery 1894. This could indicate that he moved to Cape Town when his wife was admitted to Falkenberg in what appears to have been dementia (Alzeimer's) and eventually died in 1903 at age 67. Were you able to confirm date of death for William Rush Bruce and that he was the son of William Rush Bruce of Hintlesham and that he was born in 1820? Appreciated.
