Our next Zoom talk is on the Tuesday 21st June. Please Join us with Sharon Hintze at 7pm for 7.30pm with her talk 'Catching up with Family Search'.
Sharon will talk about how busy Family Search has been recently and has finished digitising its microfilm collection.
To find out what this and other developments mean to you, plan on attending this talk.  A long to-do list will likely be the result.

The July Zoom talk will be held on Thursday 28th July at 7pm for 7.30pm.
The talk is ' The 9 lives of Mina Jury' with Claire Moores.

Claire Moores is an independent history researcher with over 20 years experience of genealogical and local historical research projects.
Mina Jury was transported to Van Dieman's land age 17 for stealing some jewellery from her employer.  After she got her ticket of leave she married and had 11 children.  However, after her husband's death she then returned to England to appear as a minor witness in the trial of the Tichborne Claimant in 1873.  Uprooted from the stable life she had created in Australia, Mina went on to live a life of theft and fraud in England.

North West Kent Family History Society is hosting a talk on Thursday 22nd March.

Log in from 7pm for a 7.30pm start with Dr. David Turner '“The Life & Legacy of George Bradshaw”

Dr David Turner will examine how Bradshaw’s company produced guides and handbooks that were considered indispensable for Victorian and Edwardian railway travellers and reveals how they were seen by the public.

North West Kent Family History Society is hosting a talk on Saturday 19 February at 10.30am.
Log in from 10am for a 10.30am start with Dr. Penny Walters ‘Searching for Ancestors when Adopted’.

People have gaps in their personal history and want to find out about their biological family. This talk will discuss the practical realities, excitement and pain of researching a “new” family, also looking at information revealed through DNA testing.

Penny will also reflect on her own adoption story.

North West Kent Family History Society hosts zoom talks each month at various times.
 
The next scheduled zoom talk is on Thursday 20th January at 7pm for 7.30pm with Sue Gibbons. The talk is on  “Conserving your family archive”.

Sue  will cover:- General principles for keeping things safe and in good condition. Detailed advice on caring for and storing documents, photographs and many other items.
Suggestions for preserving your heritage as a book or a website and making plans as to what will happen to it all after your death plus some trustworthy sources for further help and advice.

The second zoom talk this month is on Thursday 27th January at 7pm for 7.30pm with the speaker Myko Clelland. Myko will introduce the 1921 Census of England and Wales.

Myko Clelland, Regional Licensing and Outreach Manager, talks about the 1921 England and Wales census which was published by Find My Past on 6 January 2022. This census was taken between two world wars, during a period of economic turmoil and at a time when women had just won the right to vote, the 1921 Census should provide some fascinating insights about society and how it has evolved over the past 100 years.

The next scheduled talk is on Tuesday 14th September by Jackie Depelle: Wills for Family History at 7:00pm for 7:30pm. Jackie will explain the value of wills in family history.

Jackie Depelle is a specialist Family History tutor, guiding and motivating family history research for just over twenty years.

A regular virtual speaker at shows and to groups across the country, Jackie supports Family and Local History and the Guild of One Name Studies through membership and via her former role as Chairman of the Yorkshire Group of Family History Societies.  She now also runs many online courses mainly for the WEA and other education providers.

North West Kent Family History Society hosts a number of online zoom talks each month at various times.
 
The next scheduled talk is on Thursday 12 August  7pm for 7.30  with Natalie Bodle  'My ancestors were Irish or were they?'

Natalie is a full-time professional genealogist, educator and tour guide and is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG).  A native of County Antrim, her company Roots Revealed is based in Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

The talk examines the history and origins of Irish surnames.  If you don’t know where in Ireland your ancestors originated, there will be tips to help you to narrow down the location.  First names often followed a traditional naming pattern and this can help to build your family tree.  There are some naming traditions that were used in particular by the Ulster Scots that again can help to expand your family tree and Latin names sometimes used in Roman Catholic records.


Another talk is due on Saturday 21 August 10am for 10.30  with Amy Moffat 'The History of Bethlem Museum of the Mind'
Bethlem Royal Hospital was founded in 1247 and was the first institution in the UK to specialise in the care of the mentally ill. The hospital continues to provide in-patient care as part of the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, and has been based in south London since 1930.

Situated within the hospital grounds, in a stunning Art Deco building shared with the Bethlem Gallery, Bethlem Museum of the Mind was formally opened by artist Grayson Perry in March 2015. The museum cares for an internationally renowned collection of archives, art and historic objects, which together offer an unparalleled resource to support the history of mental healthcare and treatment.

John has been researching family history for nearly 40 years and is a member of the Guild of One-Name studies. A former trustee of the Society of Genealogists for 14 years and has served on many other family history committees.
Has lectured on and taught family history for nearly 20 years including at Who Do You Think You Are.
This lecture will explore the reasons behind why we start one name or one place studies, their benefits and also their pitfalls.

Another talk is due on Saturday 17 July  10am for 10.30 Janet Few "Sons of the soil" researching agricultural labourers"
