Thank you for making me look again at the marriage  (23.11.1800 at Nonnington) , so whilst no reference to age,  I have just noticed that one of  witnesses was a John Jarvis!

The other witness was Ann Foord who I assume is related to the  groom, Abraham Foord (from Eastry)  -  though his origins are a puzzle for another day!

I think my next step will be to look at John Jarvis and see if I can find any  connections.

I  just found it difficult to make sense of the baptism record, compared with entries for other baseborn children it was confusing as to whether Baxter or Jarvis was surname of mother or father.

Anyway, thank you, at least I now have another direction for my search!
 

'My' Sarah Baxter married at Nonnington in Kent in 1800 and I am looking for her baptism around 1760  and came across the following entry (FindMyPast) in the baptism records for Wingham (5 mi from Nonnington) :

'June 30th 1862 Sarah Baxter baseborn daug. of ___________  Jarvis'

I'm not sure how to interpret this as thought baseborn child would take mother's name? Is Jarvis a clue to father's name but then mother's name not actually stated?   Jarvis and Baxter are both surnames that feature in the parish records of Wingham.

Sorry, I should have called it Milton Regis not next to Sittingbourne in my original post but there's no Morris' there that I can find.

William was a labourer (1851) but did wonder about the Reculver connection not just the maritime aspect (Coastguard stations?) but because there was an extended family called Morris already in Reculver and though I've traced the family back  from early 1700s to mid 1800s, I've not been able to see likely parents for William.

Also- and this just adds to my confusion, William's granddaughter Eliza Hopkins marries a James Harlow who is in fact the GG grandson of a John Harlow and Hannah Morris who were both baptised, married and died at Reculver.

Not only did William get married in Elham but so did his eldest daughter Sarah (1860 John Hopkins)

I seem to have coincidences but can't find connections!

I did see the William Morris born Linton and the date fits but is a long way from Elham - do Milton and Linton sound sufficiently alike to be confused?

I have Guyatts from Hampshire in my tree and there's a father and son called Richard so maybe that's a family name?

There's a marriage at Winchester 7.10.1714 of Richard Gyat, shepherd,  'of Dean in the county of Southton' (Southampton) to Mary James 'of the same'.

Then baptisms:
Mary 30.1.1715 d. Richard Gyat and Mary his wife at Ashe (1.5 miles W of Deane)
Alice 10.3.1717 d Richard Gyat at Deane
Richard 10.7.1719 s. Richard Gyat at Deane

Mary 'wife of Richard Gyat' was buried at Deane 5.4.1740
Richard Guyatt 'of the Basingstoke, age 89' was buried at Deane 27.5.1772

Not sure how ' 'my' Guyatts are connected to those from Andover but thought the info might be of help to someone

I would very much appreciate any advice on finding the baptism of my 4xGgrandmother Mary Foord who married Henry Hadaway at Nonington, Kent on 12.10.1807, witness was Jemima Foord. Census records suggest she was born around 1786, and gives her birthplace as 'Sussex, N.K.'

I'm looking at all Mary Foord/Fords born around that time in Sussex and trying to eliminate by marriage or death but wondered if, in your experience any of the following information is significant?

1. Also married at Nonington was Abraham Foord to Sarah Baxter on 23.11.1800, witness Ann Foord. Census returns suggest Abraham was born around 1780 and gives his birthplace as 'Sussex, Newick'. I can't find a baptism for Abraham, possible parents were Abraham and Martha Ford who were married at Newick in 1776, twins Henry & James were baptised there in 1778.  Both Abraham and Martha were buried at Eythorne Baptist Church (3 miles from Nonington) in 1838 & 1821 respectively.

2. Mary called her youngest daughters, Jemima and Martha

3. Mary's son, Thomas Hadaway, was apprenticed to Abraham Foord (1841 census) at Eastry (4 miles from Nonington) and in 1847 married his daughter Mary Foord at the Wesleyan Chapel, Dover.

So lots of connections but I'm not sure of their importance?

I've also been wondering about the significance of:
a) marriage witnesses - were they usually siblings
b) Baptist faith - are names chosen at birth or later at baptism?

Various FTs on Ancestry suggest Mary, Jemima, Abraham & Ann were all the children of Abraham and Martha of Newick which would be great but sadly no evidence!

Any advice or encouragement very welcome!
