United States of America / Re: BUNNs related to my family in Australia?
« on: Tuesday 24 August 10 01:49 BST (UK)  »
Thankyou Rosie and Sandra for your interest.
I have not been able to obtain more onformation as yet, because the person who I need to contact about specific dates is on the other side of the country and does not own a computer. So I have found it hard to pin them down.
Thanks once again.
I will try to gather some more info and post it at a later date,
Regards,
Jenny.

United States of America / BUNNs related to my family in Australia?
« on: Wednesday 18 August 10 14:16 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me please if they know of any family that could be related to John Bunn born 1829 in Maidstone,Kent, UK? He married Mary Anne Cox, born 1828,Stockberry, Kent, UK.  They were married in 1853 in Kent and soon after immigrated to Australia and settled in Bright, Victoria.
Family anecdotal history relates that a sibling of John Bunn immigrated to the USA.
Unfortunately this is the only information that we have and if anyone has anymore we would very much appreciate hearing from you.
Thankyou in anticipation,
Jenny Bunn.

 Thankyou so much Grey squirrel,

Up til your email I had run into a brick wall trying to find the Australind. My Grandmother, Uncle and Mother were on board. I also found my Grandfather who sailed on the Orsova in 1911.

Thanks heaps,
Ozigirl.

England / Jewish first names
« on: Friday 14 July 06 02:13 BST (UK)  »
Hello Everyone,

I have traced my mother's family( Larner) back to 1751, Winterton Norfolk. Most of the family stayed in Norfolk, but my Great Grandfather moved to Essex and after that my Grandparents moved to Australia.

Throughout the generations there are scattered Jewish names such as Hannah, Isaac, Ezra, Solomon etc. They seemed not to have been practicing their religion if in fact they were Jewish, as they all seem to have married in Anglican churches.

Could they have been Jewish, or were Jewish names popular?  They might just have liked the names.
I would just like to know a little history I guess. Were there a lot of Jews in Norfolk?  Did they come from Europe and if so where would I start to look?

Anyone willing to give me a history lesson??

Cheers,

Ozigirl

Hi Again Jenn,

Yes I agree, very odd. The occupations were listed I think it said grocer (Wilfred) and nurse (Anne) and that they were bachelor and spinster. I can't remember if it had their ages, will have to have another look.
Regards Jen.

Hi Jenn,
I'm researching this for a friend, but I have seen the marriage certificate (NSW) and the parents of Wilfred and Anne are not listed on the certificate. I was surprised that they weren't. Every marriage cert. they I have seen from other states have the parents on them.
Regards Jen.
