« on: Monday 01 August 16 17:05 BST (UK)  »
Is anyone else researching the ASH family from the Staffordshire Moorlands / Leek area?  My focus is the ancestors of Solomon ASH b 1737.  Would love to get in touch with you if so.

Hello Wendoree

I'm the grand-daughter of Sarah LAWTON - she married Alfred Griffiths, and I am the youngest daughter of their son Herbert.  Yes, you are correct, Sarah & Hannah did have a brother Herbert, whom my father was named after.

Please do contact me if you are still intersted in this family as I have a lot of information.  I've also sent you another message explaining a little more.  I live not far from where Sarah was born and have current family contacts and photos, as well as ancestry info.

Warm regards, Carole

One Name Studies: A to G / Re: AMES in the UK, West Midlands

Hi Joy

Sorry, I've only just picked this message up.

Now I've retired (hooray) I've been able to browse for the whereabouts  Samuel (The Love Rat) AMES in 1861 and 1851.

On the 1861 census in Brighton, Surrey, I've come across a Samuel AMES aged 34 who was an unmarried Iron Moulder born in Burton upon Trent, Staffs.  He appears again on the 1851 census in Southwark, Surrey aged 22 as an unmarried  Moulder born in Burton, Derbyshire.  I feel sure they are the same person, but I'm unsure if he's our ancestor.  I've attached the census copies for you.

What do you think?

Carole

Thanks Shirl.

I'll have to look at the original handwritten version I think.  Then I'll know whether to search for a Henzey (a local name I think) or a Nanc(s)ey.  Her name seems to vary per document.  It could be enumerator's interpretations of what they heard, or her giving her 'currently preferred' name.  One census even has her down as Jessie...

Cheers, Carole

Hi

Please could someone look up the birth of Henry Thomas AMES in the Oct-Dec quarter in 1845, Stourbridge, volume XVIII, page 458.

Who were his parents?  Were they Thomas and Henzey AMES?   :-\
