I also found a marriage certificate for a Carrie Davis who married a Charles Richard smith and became Mrs smith at St. John’s church Chelsea in 1904  so they are Potentially they are the same person. But I’m not sure.

Maybe she moved in with Eli James Hayward and never officially married him.

I dont know if anyone has better luck then me?

Hi don’t know if I’m a bit late to this thread.

But Eli David Hayward is my great grandads brother.

I have found a copy of their fathers Eli James Hayward ww1 enrolment documents.

On it states that his wife was Carrie Davis is deceased in 1915 they were married in what looks like at johns church Chelsea in 1904.

However on his service records his next of kin is listed as mrs Carrie smith and she is classed as friend they are bother living in the underworld passage in Chelsea.

This is where it gets confusing because later cenus record state he is living with a carrie Hayward after his wife death. But I can’t find a death certificate for Carrie Davis or where he married Carrie smith.

I believe eli David and Harold were possibly Carrie smiths Children as there seems to be a slight age gap between them and the other children.

Further more to make it even more confusing their were two Eli James Hayward’s born in the same year and both living in Chelsea.

It’s a mind field I just can’t crack.
