Cheshire / Re: Blacksmiths Plemstall or Mickle Trafford

Hello to all who have been so kind in replying.   Please accept my apologies for not acknowledging your help sooner but some sad family happenings intervened.

Anyway thanks so much for all your suggestions, next time I'm in Chester I'll go to the Heritage Centre and look at the Township Packs and check out the Derek Rowell book.     My Mum who's in her eighties had an idea that there was a smithy somewhere near to the turning for Hoole village from the Mickle Trafford road which may well be the one in the book Brian mentioned.

Thanks again.

Hi Jo,

My ancestor is George Nield - John's brother I believe - and son of Samuel Nield.  George's son George Philip TAylor Nield is also a blacksmith and I have found him in Milton St. Chester and also a reference to him buying a blacksmith's shop in Gorse Stacks, Chester , so the whole family seem to have a blacksmith's connection.

Your point about him living in Mickle Trafford and working elsewhere is a good one and I know that his son George Philip has his birthplace  listed as Guilden Sutton and although the birth is registered a year before his parents were married  this may be the place to look.

Many thanks.

Hello,

I'm trying to locate the whereabouts of a smithy in the Plemstall or Mickle Trafford.  My Nield ancestors were blacksmiths in the area in the mid 1800's but so far I have failed to find any reference to a smithy in the area.

Hope someone can help.

Mayo / Maloney (Moloney) Swinford, Wrexham
« on: Monday 03 January 11 21:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,   I'm researching my Maloney family.  Patrick and his sister Bridget and their parents Michael and Mary seem to have come from the Swinford, Galway area to Wrexham in Denbighshire, North Wales sometime before 1852.   Patrick married Bridget Turner also from Ireland in Wrexham in 1852.  They go on to have Mary, John, Michael, Catherine, Margaret, Elizabeth and Ellen between 1852 and 1867, all born in Wrexham.   Patrick's sister Bridget married a John or James Henaghan ?? difficult to read the writing in the marriage record in Wrexham.

If anyone recognises any of these names I would be very pleased to hear from you.

Cheers

Louth / Re: Hanlon
« on: Thursday 23 December 10 21:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I have a Mary Hanlon born about 1848 married Michael Feron (Fearon) in 1869 in RC Chapel of Ravensdale, (Lordship RC, Rampark, Louth)  one of the witnesses was Catherine Hanlon (presumably a sister).   Father was Thomas Hanlon a fisherman of Rampark, Co. Louth.   Don't know whether this could be the same family but may give you an area to start looking.

Good luck

So sorry, didn't wish to cause any confusion, but as there were possibly three counties involved I posted on each of their boards.

I do apologise.

Thanks for your reply, yes I've searched and searched the civil registration index with different spellings, dates etc. but cannot find any reference.

Have been hoping to find relatives of their children but to date no joy there either.

Mayo / Edward Knight
« on: Wednesday 17 November 10 20:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm trying to research the family of Edward Knight who I believe was born in Co. Mayo in about 1868.   He married my paternal grandmother Jane Roberts sometime in the late 1890's.  So far I have been totally unable to find any marriage reference for them.

They are both living in Toxteth,Liverpool in 1898 and by 1902 have moved to Kirkdale, Liverpool.

Their children are John b. 1898, Ellen b. 1899 and died 1899 or 1900, Lillian b. 1900 or 1901, Ada (my grandmother) born 1902 and then Edward, William and James.  Birth dates for these could be 1905, 1911 and 1916.

Edward worked as a horse groom / ostler in Toxteth and then as a coal dealer in Kirkdale.

If anyone recognises any of these names I would be pleased to hear from you.

Ireland / McManus/Ferin
« on: Wednesday 17 November 10 20:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I'm researching the McManus and Ferin (Fearon, Feran) families.   My gt. gt. grandmother was Mary Ann Ferin, Fearon or Feran.    I believe she was born in the Omeath area about 1843.   Her husband was James McManus b. abt 1839 and they moved to Liverpool where they had the following children Margaret, Susan, Peter, Elizabeth, Mary Ann (my gt. grandmother b. 1874), Alice, Patrick and James.

I believe I may have found James and Mary Ann's marriage in Newry, Co. Armagh in May, 1864 and the birth of a son Michael in  Dec 1865 in Meigh.   The grooms father is listed as Peter McManus and the bride's father is Peter Ferin.

I have also found a death reference for Michael in Liverpool in 1868.   So they appeared to have moved from Ireland to Liverpool between 1865 and 1868.

If anyone recognises any of these names I would be happy to hear from you.
