Hi there,

Which Woolfardisworthy do you mean the one near Crediton, or the one near Bideford.
If its the one near Crediton then I could probably get a photo for you.

 :)

Happy new year

Durham / Re: Master Mariners
« on: Friday 18 May 07 14:27 BST (UK)  »
I hope you don't mind me butting in on a thread.
My husband's family all seem to have been sailers of some kind, either watermen, firemen, and Master Mariners.
I haven't been able to find much info about any of them though.
I have found out that William S. Hurdman was a Master of a couple of paddle steamers.  He seems to have moved from Sunderland (1871) Rye (1890s) Eastbourne/Hastings (1900ish) and Leith in Scotland (1901) and Middlesbourgh in 1907.
Would anyone have any other info on any Hurdman sailers that they might find, I would be very greatful.

Regards

Hi Sarra,

Got your PM.

Spoke to a very helpful lady at Torquay Cemetery this morning, and she will help me locate the memorial when I go to Torquay.  She has a plan of the graves and their plot numbers so it shouldn't be to hard to find it.

Regards

Hi Sarra,

If you don't mind waiting until after the Easter Holidays, and the kids are back at school I'll do it for you.
Can you let me know where the memorial is, as the cemetery covers a large area.
I live near Torquay so it wont be a major journey.

Pardon me for butting in. But if you are not able to get to the cemetery.  Give me a shout and I'll see if I can find it for you.
I park outside the gates every day to collect my children from school.
It's a lovely place with fantastic views over the sea.

What an interesting evening.  Lots of names, births, deaths, marriages and stories that need sorting out.
It does seem that the James/Small/Penfold/Orchard marriages are still happening.
The problem is, that with the same names being used over and over again, its hard to work out who belongs to who.
I will keep you posted.  ;D

I thought the same as you, wouldn't it be great if Robert was the brother to John ? :D

We're on the same track.  I had those printed out too.  Still looking for them on the 1817 and 1881.  Have you seen the Penfold family on 1881 RG11/2086 pages 22 and 23 they must fit in somewhere.

I have been looking for John and Harriet Penfold prior to 1871 when Harriet is stated as a widow.
I think I have found them on the 1861.

Still looking for them on the 1851 but what do you think ?
