Dublin / Killiney in 1911
« on: Friday 14 January 22 15:06 GMT (UK)  »
1911 was a good year in terms of the recording of people and events in the Killiney area. In the January 2022 featured article we present some of this source material which may be of interest to anyone researching their Killiney ancestors or those who have a general interest in the history of Killiney and its inhabitants. The topics include a transcript of Porter's Post Office Guide and Directory, the 1911 census of Killiney and the Royal visit of George V. You can view the article here: http://killineyhistory.ie/killiney-in-1911/

Cavantownlands.com have just uploaded a major new dataset on https://cavantownlands.com/census-of-1821/

This contains 80,000 complete individual records for 17 of the 36 parishes of County Cavan which have survived. We have re-indexed the listings from the National Archives website which we found to contain many transcription as well as townland indexation errors. We believe we have improved the townland search facility from about 25% to nearly 95% by updating the old and misspelt townland names to their correct current classification (Logainm).

You can now search the census records by filtering parish, townland, surname, first name, occupation etc. The search engine supports predictive text which makes searching easier. (Note we have not attempted to update the name transcriptions which, unfortunately, are not very reliable in many instances. We recommend that any records encountered be verified by cross checking with the original photographed records which can be viewed on the NAI site.)

This is one of the very few counties in Ireland for which census records have survived from this era and represent a major historical resource for any Cavan genealogical or historical research.

Armed Forces / Re: Bernard J Fagan, trying to sketch his army career

I am researching a house history in Killiney and your Bernard J Fagan came up as resident here from 1936 to 1951. I was wondering if you had any information on his time living here, perhaps photographs or stories that would be of interest to the current owners?
I am happy to share what I have found to date.
