New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Brogdens Recuits to New Zealand - James Palmer
« on: Wednesday 21 July 21 01:08 BST (UK)  »
Thank you Spades. I appreciate you posting the article and its contact address.
I had discovered that Toitu Otago Settlers Museum (Otago Early Settlers Museum) held the 1872 'Zealandia' voyage Medical Journal, and was able to see from its contents that my Gt Grandmother Dinah Palmer was recorded in it, thus confirming she was a passenger aboard it to New Zealand.  My assumptions since then are that James, Dinah and baby Jesse Palmer disembarked at Bluff from the Zealandia on 28 Dec 1872, James being a Brogden recruit as noted in Rollo Arnolds' book The Farthest Promised Land.
I am grateful to Delwyn Blondell for allowing her thesis to be placed on line for the likes of myself and other genealogist to confirm / progress our family research. but it still leaves me wondering the source of her Brodgen 'Zealandia' passenger list.

Essex Lookup Requests / Re: Pebmarsh Parish Register look-up
« on: Thursday 24 September 09 04:27 BST (UK)  »
lizdb,

Thank you for the response that is helpful but does not provide the information I am seeking.

The parents of the John Weavers c.1835 birth that I am looking for are George and Harriett Weavers as identified on his New Zealand marriage certificate and appearing in the Alphamstone 1851 census.

Unfortunately the chr 1837 John Weavers you refer to is not my family one,  but are you able to advise where in the IGI (Familysearch.org ?) site I can view the entries you refer to and see if I can find any connection?

I have checked all the digitized Alphamstone Parish Registers that are available at seax.essex web site and located my John's younger brother Walter's baptism there,  but I suspect the rest of the siblings including my John Weavers are in the Pebmarch registers that appear not to be available on line.

I am hopeful that some one will be able to carry out a look-up for John Weavers baptised c.1835 on the microfiche Pebmarsh Parish Registers that I do not have access to in New Zealand.

Kind regards

Essex Lookup Requests / Pebmarsh Parish Register look-up

I am seeking birth details of John Weavers who is listed in the Alphamstone 1851 census, with his parents George & Harriett Weavers, as being born at Pebmarsh c.1835

John Weavers migrated to New Zealand and married there in 1865.

I will be extremely grateful to anyone who is able to do a look-up and provide me with his birth /baptism details from the Parish Register so that I add my G Grandfathers details to my family tree.

 Bunny

The James Palmer Birth Registration No. 1874/10142 was registered in Waimea Sth , Nelson District and is not my one.  The Joseph James Palmer I am seeking birth registration for was named Joseph after his maternal grandfather and James after his father so not likely to have been given temporary other names for registration.

Alehea

I will follow up your suggestion of the school records and as my Joseph James Palmer is the son of the James and Dinah Palmer who lived at George St. Invercargill North this may be the breakthrough I am looking for.

Thanks for your interest and replys

Thanks for reply  Mk2-Zephyr

James born 1974 is registered as Waimea Sth Nelson District so not my one
Joseph Sampson born 1874 I did check and I think was registered in Christchurch but is not my one.

With the above in mind I am still looking for my Joseph James Palmer birth probably in Invercargill c.1873-74 as I believe his parents did not move from this area.

Can any one help ? I am trying to find the birth entry of Joseph James Palmer, son of Dinah (Diana) (Dina) & James Palmer, probably at Invercargill 1873 - 1874. Joseph James Palmer's death printout  lists his death at Invercargill on 25 Jan 1951 aged 77, being born in Invercargill and being in N.Z. for 77 years.   I've searched the NZ Birth microfiche and the new on-line birth entries without success.  The parents are believed to have arrived in NZ on board the Zealandia at Bluff on 28 December 1872 as noted in "The Farthest Promised Land".
I'm getting stuck for ideas, so your comments would be appreciated.

Hi Abby,

Your reply is much appreciated and confirms my research to date that the Zealandia Dec 1872 arrival passenger list covers only those that landed at Dunedin. The 31 Dec 1872 Southland Times article gives a good precis of the outward voyage

It is my Great Great Grandparents James & Dinah Palmer that arrived  Dec 1872 on the Zealandia according to an extract in "The Farthest Promised Land".  I would be interested to know how you established you GG Grandfather Richard William Jones arrived on the same voyage on the offchance it may lead to further information.

Regards
Owen

Hi Riley,

Many thanks for the checks you have done.  I am ever hopeful James & Dinah Palmer may show up on some NZ passenger arrival list.
