Hi hanes teulu - thank you for the the image you have posted - it looks like and advertisement in a newspaper or a shipping schedule in said newspaper - my German is not good as I rely on google translate or my handy dictionary!
I have ancestors who migrated to NSW Australia aboard the Caesar that left Hamburg on 11 November 1854 and arrived Sydney 27 March 1855.
As they lived in Mittelheim I was interested in how they would have made the journey from their town to the port of Hamburg - could they have travelled overland in coaches or via railway or taken boats via the river system or a combination of river and land travel. Also would they have had to pay their own travel expenses to the port? It is quite a distance between the two areas!
I would love to find an advertisement or shipping notice for the Caesar like the one you posted - would you know where I could access this information?
Many thanks
Cheers

Hi hanes teulu and tonepad - Thank you for your replies. I have checked both trove and familysearch and assisted immigration records in NSW. None provide details on how they made the journey from their home to the port of Hamburg.
the record that someone indicated was a passport must have been personal details provided before the voyage.
cheers

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Route from Mittelheim to Hamburg in 1854

Hello - I am interested in learning  how would people travelled from Mittelheim to their ship in Hamburg in 1854 - they were vinedressers who were going to New South Wales in Australia.

Are there records online of any passport applications they would have completed for the journey and were there any requirements for these people undertaking this journey.

Lastly what route would the ships have sailed from Hamburg to Sydney New South Wales, Australia?
thank you for your assistance.
Regards

Thank you for that info - his civil war file indicated that there was no marriage record so I was hoping that after all these years the Presbyterian records for that particular church or Pastor had since been found - the records indicated that the pastor had left the area for parts unknown when they were seeking the marriage record.

Hello - I am looking for the marriage record of my 3rd great granduncle Robert Rennie to Margaret Wildrick in 1855 in Whitehall, NY. In Robert's Civil War military file there is a letter dated 1931 to Senator Thomas indicating that there is an affidavit from Robert and Martha Doig, (who Margaret had been living with and she is on the 1850 US Census with the Doig family), to the marriage of Robert and Margaret at the home of Robert Coleman by the Reverend Louis Gano who was Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church.
Robert and Margaret were both living in the Whitehall area prior to their marriage and she was born in Ireland and he in Canada.
I have looked at records on Ancestry, Familysearch and Findmypast without success.
Have any records from this church survived and if so can they be accessed online.
thank you for your assistance.
Cheers

Hi Chris
Glad to assist - I believe that James' misdemeanour was that he was AOL for a day or 2 hence the lighter punishment.
Hanes teulu post of the newspaper article is really good for troop movement.
Cheers
