Deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Armed Forces / Re: Records of the French Foreign Legion
« on: Monday 30 August 10 03:06 BST (UK)  »
Just wondering if anyone can answer this question about records of the French Foreign Leigon:

Found this little snippet about my grandmother's cousin:

'Julian Strange Bartholomeusz, mentioned in section
XXXVIII, 1, was in London when war broke out in
August 1914. He sought Enrolment, but at the time no
Non-English were being taken on, and so he crossed
over to France and joined the famous French Foreign
Legion, H^ was awarded the Croix de Guerre (French
Military Cross) and was offered a Commission which he
refused as it involved taking French nationality.'

{Section XXXVII refers to a genealogy published in the  Journal of the Dutch Burgher Union  in 1948}

Thank you.

The Lighter Side / Re: Every child with the same middle name?
« on: Monday 12 May 08 05:38 BST (UK)  »
I know of a family where the 3 sons - born 1940s-50s - had the same middle name, so did their father and grandfather.  The name sounds like a surname, so maybe it was great-grandmother's maiden name ??? ???  As far as I know, it did not get passed on!

OH's grandmother, born in 1910, was named Florence Maud after her mother.  She told me that  her father chose the name, but her mother did not want it because  "they will call her Flossie."  I got the impression that her mother had been called Flossie as a child and did  not like it!

Dad won, but she was always called Maud.

Microsoft Works Word XP x

Shirley, I think Works Word is  different to Office Word, which is what I'm using - so I'm afraid I don't know how to find your drawing toolbar, if there is one.

You may have to put the borders on in a graphics program after all.

Sorry I have not been able to help.

Shirley, do you have the document open in Word?
Even if we have different versions, Word should still have a drawing toolbar.
This is what mine looks when you make the Drawing toolbar visible
