Thanks again for this infomation. The reason I am interested in the Gibson's is I was contacted by a DNA match and we think the Gibson family name is the link. The family member she has in her tree is called John William Gibson born in Ireland abt 1793 and died in Texas 1870. We were thinking that her John Gibson and the father of Agnes (Robert) may have been brothers but we are both struggling to find documentation to confirm this match.

Thanks for this infomation and how did you find it as trying to find more about their parents too

I searched on the irishgenealogy site. It contains non RC marriages from 1st April 1845 onwards and RC from 1st Jan 1864 onwards. I searched a year or two either side to be on the safe side.

I looked up Griffiths Valuation for Drumgiven (1863). There are no Gibsons listed in the townland then, so suspect the family had died out or moved away by that year

A John Gibson of Drumgiven appears to have died c 1857. There is mention of his will:

https://freepages.rootsweb.com/~rosdavies/genealogy/SURNAMES/G/GibsonAJ.htm

There are several Ferguson properties in Ballymacarn North in Griffiths but I do not see a Samuel. He was a labourer rather than a farmer so might easily have moved away from the area.

Down / Re: Origin of McCrums around Newry

My Great Grandmother was Annie McCrum born in Scotland 1873 and died in 1957. Her parents were William McCrum and Susan Marr. William was born in Ireland in 1849 and died in Scotland in 1913. His parents were John McCrum and Jane Reynolds (maybe married in Ireland on the 23rd of May 1844) who were both born in Ireland and died in Scotland and I suspect this was the 1st generation to arrive in Scotland. From what else I can find Williams parents were William McCrum and Ann Edwards who would be my 4th Great Grandparents who were both born in Ireland but i don't have any documents to support this infomation. Myself and my mum have both had our DNA tested and can help with anything else I have.

I think this might be your James & Agnes. Married 18.2.1846 in May St Presbyterian church in Belfast. Agnes is “Nessie” a diminutive for Agnes.

Agnes was from Drumgiven in Co Down. Here's her father listed farming there in the tithe applotment records for 1833:

Trying to deal with a brick wall in my family tree. My 3rd Great Grandparents were James Fergusson born in Ireland Abt 1821 and his wife Agnes Gibson born in Ireland Abt 1829. According to his death cert from Scotland in 1885 his parents were Samuel Fergusson and Helen Halliday. His wife Agnes death cert also from Scotland in 1901 has her parents as Robert Gibson and Agnes Burrows (or Borrows). I found a extract from a parish register their 1st born daughter for James and Agnes for a Isabella Borrows Ferguson born in Ballynahinch for a baptism in Magheradroll Parish Church in 1847. Their next child was born in Scotland in 1849 so I suspect they moved to Scotland between 1847 and 1849? I also have infomation that the marriage of James and Agnes may have happened on the 19 Feb 1845 or 20 June 1845 in the Belfast Rosemary St Church, Antrim but I haven't found any documents to support this as yet. Love to find out more about their family and especially their parents I suspect they left behind in Ireland. If anyone has come across them before or able to help then that would be much appreciated.

Thanks for this information too and this is the picture I have also seen of the grave but no clearer if this is the George that I am looking for. Thanks also for the other documents but not sure about the death certificate is for George unless I am wrong?

Could this be the George McCullough buried at Kilwaughter?

Hi and thanks for the reply and infomation and it should have been Glenwhirry I posted and not Glenderry

Quote
Their father William may have married a Helen ? as this was taken from another DNA connections family tree in this side of the family.
In Ulster the name Ellen was used whilst in Scotland Helen was used more often, so if searching in Irish records check for Ellen as the Christian name.

Quote
wedding cert to Agnes from 1859 in the Parish of Glenderry
Marriage of Hugh McCulloch to Agnes Beggs (1859)- the Parish is Glenwhirry not Glenderry-

brother called George McCullough (1841 to 1901). He married Fanny Sterling
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1866/11517/8235904.pdf
Marriage took place in Ballymena Registry Office and Glenwhirry is clearly written.

Have also been looking for Georges death certificate and only have the year of 1901 that he died.
I don't see a death anywhere in Ireland in 1901 for a George McCull*

There is a George McCullough, age 68 who died in 1915-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1915/05261/4459451.pdf
This looks to be the same George McCullough (married c1875 to Isabella)-
https://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Antrim/Ballyclug/Cross/122436/
Looks like this George McCullough can be ruled out as father is called David not William-

I am back on the trail of the my McCulloch branch and still looking for further info for this family when they lived in Co Antrim.

My 3rd Great Grandfather was Hugh McCulloch and was born in Ireland around 1835 and died in Scotland sometime after his sons wedding Samuel in 1883 (because he wasn't listed as deceased on the wedding certificate).  Not been successful trying to find his death certificate yet and been searching the Scottish records with no luck.  Maybe he went back his homeland after the death of his wife,  Agnes Ann Begg in 1879? It's been a struggle for the last few years trying to find this piece of information.

From this information,  I was hoping to find his parents details as all I have is his father was William  McCullough and this came from his wedding cert to Agnes from 1859 in the Parish of Glenderry.   Hugh did have a brother called George McCullough (1841 to 1901). He married Fanny Sterling and both are buried in Kilwaughter Cemetery and i have seen a picture on line but it doesn't have any dates. Have also been looking for Georges death certificate and only have the year of 1901 that he died. Maybe his death certificate will provide his parents details that I am looking for?  I do have DNA links back to the decedents of George so I am confident I am looking in the right direction.

Their father William may have married a Helen ? as this was taken from another DNA connections family tree in this side of the family. This William could be connected to Hugh McCullough (Born in Ballymena, Antrim in 1810) and Jane Eliza McCullough (Born in Antrim in 1814) as I also have DNA connections back to this family. Their parents are listed as William McCullough and Margaret Graham.

I would be grateful to get any help or pointers to help piece this information all together.
