My apologies if this subject has already been covered, or if this is not the place for this, but I found these videos that explain in much detail how to restore and how to color photos. The first two are for Photoshop, and the third one for GIMP.

Photoshop is the best software, but it has become costly. GIMP is a great alternative, plus it is free! There is a plethora of tutorials on Youtube, even for very beginners. It's worth a try!
