London and Middlesex / Re: Joan Alice COLLINS (née Newman), 1935-?

Thanks.  I welcome any suggestions.  It's a possibility as it's in the general area and registers were not always accurate, but it does not seem to fit otherwise.  According to John's will, there was grandson, but I have not found his birth either.

Thomas and Alice did not marry.

Thanks for your reply.  Joan Alice Newman was born on 21 September 1935, parents Thomas Joseph Newman and Alice Maud Beard.  Yes, Joan and John had a daughter in 1961.

The electoral register lists Joan living with her husband John Ernest Collins at 22 Hilary Avenue, Mitcham from 1964 on.  She was no longer listed with him in the 1972 register and so depending when the register was taken probably died between 1970 and 1972 when she was in her mid-30s.  I have not found a record of her death in those or any other years, or in newspaper reports.  Relatives believe that she may have drowned, possibly in the River Thames.  John continued to live at 22 Hilary Avenue until his death in 1989 age 58.

Thanks Radcliff.  The drowning story seems to concern someone else.

Many thanks for the replies.

Ladyhawk, re: William Longstaff.  I had seen this and agree it's certainly a possibility.

jonw65, the burials of James Reed and the other family members fit the information I have, but I had not seen the burial registers before.  It was interesting to see that they share a burial place.

Thanks BumbleB.  The Halls were still there in the 1901 England Census but not James Reed.

Thanks Debra.  This confirms the street.  I am surprised that Ancestry missed the page out.  A search on Find My Past has it, but without a subscription I cannot know for sure.
