Hello , I am seeking to re-activate this topic . I am currently revising my earlier draft of this Family History and would like to clarify some matters regarding John Moore Edmondson .
I believe that John was the biological father of my grandmother Elizabeth Alice Abercrombie .
I believe that John entered into a relationship with Charlotte Louisa Abercrombie around August 1880 in Brisbane , Queensland .
I am looking for documentary evidence that John was in Brisbane at that date .
JamJar has found evidence that he was in Brisbane by 1881 . Is there any evidence of an earlier date?

I am also looking for any information regarding John's arrival in Australia . [ In his Death Certificate ,his wife Charlotte suggests he arrived in Sydney in  mid 1890 ] .
Thank You ... Ron Nuttall

Hello Jamjar, Thank you for your very comprehensive research and reply . In reply...
# I have been unable to establish a marriage date for John Moore Edmondson and Charlotte Abercrombie . However they had ,in total , six children born between May 1881 and October 1891 . [Two of these children died in their first year ] The first three children were registered with the surname Abercrombie , the remaining three were registered with the surname Edmondson .  This could indicate that some time between April 1885 and August 1887 , ie between the births of the third and fourth children , John and Charlotte entered into a formal religious or civil marriage. However no documentation has been found .
# I am especially interested in the John Moore Edmondson ... who also had a father called John Moore Edmondson .. who you mentioned in your first posting . The date of death is correct . Is there any further information on him ? And is there any indication if the person charged with theft from the Supreme Court was the Father or Son ?
# My wife who assists me with research , had located the John Edmondstone [sic ] who arrived on the Earl Granville in 1883 . However , if he is the John Moore Edmondson , he could not have fathered Charlotte's first two children ... the first of whom was my grandmother ! The family memories and records all insist that John Moore was the father of all six children .
My wife has also commented that there are multitudes of "John Edmondsons " in Australia at that time . There would ,of course , be fewer  John Moore Edmondsons" So I would really like to pursue the leads on the two John Moore Edmondsons who you have located .
My wife also believes that the John Moore Edmondson [son ] may well have been born in Australia , and so the English Birthplace of North Hadrian Wall is misplaced .
cheers ... Charlottesggs

Hello Suz, Thank you for this interesting information . Two Comments . With respect to Elizabeth Abercrombie , Charlotte's mother , she was working as a domestic servant in a house at Iver , Buckinghamshire when she fell pregnant with Charlotte . It appears that the father was either unable or unwilling to marry her . I have been unable to uncover his identity . Elizabeth would have lost or resigned her position and returned to the family home at  Cookham for the birth . There is no record of any interest or support from the father to Elizabeth or Charlotte .
Your information on the Fry's was interesting . Although the Census records in 1871 , show Charlotte as a Boarder , she must have retained some fond memories of the Fry family . When she married for the second time in 1895 to Arthur Henry Copeman in Charters Towers , Australia , her parents on the Wedding Certificate were recorded as Thomas and Amelia Fry . Elizabeth , her real mother , was still alive at the time !

John Moore Edmondson was born in North Hadrian Wall , England in c 1861 . He died in Ravenswood Australia on the 22nd of February 1894 at the age of 33.
John was the first husband of Charlotte Louisa Abercrombie [1857- 1898 ] , my great - grandmother . I am currently writing an account of her life .
I would appreciate any information regarding the timing of John's departure for Australia . Specifically , I am looking to establish when John arrived in Brisbane , Australia .
I would also appreciate any information on John's early life in England .

Thank you for your prompt responses . In addition to the original posting , I am seeking information in the following areas ...
# Information on Charlotte's education ... and subsequent employment [if any ] in England .
# Information on the relationship between Charlotte and her mother Elizabeth Mary Abercrombie [1826-1915] . Elizabeth outlived her daughter by 17 years . I would be interested to establish details of the relationship between Mother and Daughter both before and after the migration to Australia in 1880.
# Charlotte lived most of her early life in the household of Thomas and Amelia Fry of Cookham . I would appreciate any information relating her time with this family .

Charlotte Louisa Abercrombie was born in Cookham Berkshire , England in 1857 and died in Charters Towers ,Australia in 1898 .
Charlotte was my Great grandmother . I have been engaged in researching and writing an account of her life . I live in Australia, and have been able to develop a reasonably comprehensive view of the Australian records of Charlotte's life . However the English parts of her life currently are very sketchy .Accordingly I would appreciate any assistance or advice to fill some of these unknown gaps in her life.
Specifically I am looking for photographs , letters or other information that may be held in English Family Archives .
Thank You ... CharlottesGGS
