Hi Jennifer. No, I don't have a copy yet. The genealogy got put on the back burner because of family bereavements etc.

I would love a copy. My email address is (*)

Bye for now and thanks for the offer,

Brian

Hi. Thanks for that. I will post more info once I get the chance to look at the wills in the Somerset Records Office.

Hi Trish. Thanks for that. We don't have enough info to go on.

I did find an entry in the Somerset Record Office catalogue, which would indicate that the William Chubb who was the father of Elizabeth Swaffield may be different from the one who married Mary Rendell. There was a William Chubb in Dowlish Wake in 1769, whereas our one looks as though he moved to Beaminster in Dorset. I will have to get a copy of the Somerset records in due course to see if they contain any more info to assist.

The Somerset Records Office entry reads:

Ref No    D\P\cri.st.t/2/1/1
Title    Baptisms, Marriages, Burials.
Description    (many pages removed) [On microfiche].

Also contains part copy of the will of William Chubb of Dowlish Wake, made 13 Mar 1769, and also part of a will made in 1769 by an unidentified man [possibly by the same William Chubb], who was the father of Susannah the wife of James Hull of South Perrott and the brother of Robert Chubb of Knowle St Giles.
Date    1564-1768
Extent    1
Format    volume
AccessStatus    Open

Bye for now,

Brian

Hi Trish. Thanks for your reply. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I had failed to update my email address on RootsChat, so did not get a notification of you response.

I am trying to track down a William Chubb. He would have been born around 1730. He had a bastardy order made against him in Broadwinsor in Dorset. This shows his home parish as Dowlish Wake in Somerset.

He subsequently married Mary Rendell in Beaminster in Dorset in 1756.

He was shown as a yeoman in the bastardy order.

Thanks again for your response,

Brian

I have just found an indication that my wife's Chubb line may have come from Dowlish Wake. Does anyone out there have any connections with them or any info that may help us, please.

Hi again Mak. Upon reflection, I think that I did decide that the William and Betty family was different from the William and Elizabeth family. Both families had a Sarah; one born 1773 and the other born 1779. It is possible that the first one died so they named a later child after the one that they lost. I think, however, that the vicar was showing that there were two similar families and was trying to avoid them being confused.

I don't have a copy of the Fittleton baptisms and burials but did study the one in Trowbridge. Unless you spot anything to the contrary I thing it best to assume that there were two couples. They would probably tie in a bit further back but I doubt if we will be able to work out how they do.

Can you view Gedcom files on your home computer? If so, if you would care to give me your email address, I can send you a copy of what I have worked out. I can also send copies of some of the entries in the registers.

No, I don't have any info on Sidney Ernest Maggs, unfortunately.

Bye for now,

Brian

Hi Mak. It is great to hear from you. We have traced our family back through Daniel Maggs 1794, Ann Maggs 1770 to William Maggs and his wife Betty.

I already have James Maggs 1768 in a separate database along with lots of other Maggs'. I see that his parents were William Maggs and Elizabeth Brazier. I had not considered before now that the mother of Ann Maggs is Elizabeth Brazier. Is that what you have? If not, have you tied Ann Maggs 1770 into your family in any other way?

Bye for now,

Hi Brian, I will look forward to hearing from you.

Did you get up to Trowbridge to get more info??

We have not been to Haxton yet but have been to Winterslow (last year). With regards to the lack of gravestones, I am sure that it must have been the lack of money   ;) and not the latter!!!

I have now found your posting re the Snooks too. My wife's side came from the Beaulieu area. I already have some Snooks in my records!!

Bye for now,

Brian G
